We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful David Cohen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with David below.
Hi David , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
Ever since graduating, I dreamed of opening a boutique dental practice—a place where patients could feel completely at ease, receive uncompromising quality care, and never feel rushed. By what I can only describe as divine timing, that exact opportunity appeared in my life. I was able to purchase a boutique practice right in my hometown of Studio City.
Although I had been preparing for ownership, finding the practice of my dreams came much sooner than expected. Almost overnight, I had to master the world of dental insurance, lead a team, market the business, and continue pushing my clinical skills to new heights—all while delivering the standard of care I envisioned.
When I took over, the practice was only open one day a week. The demand from our community was clear, and I knew we had to grow. We built our systems, operations, and patient experience from the ground up—expanding our availability, refining every detail, and shaping a space where exceptional dentistry could flourish.
Today, that vision has become a reality. We are thriving, our doors are open to serve the community at a whole new level, and we are proud to provide exceptional care—at the highest standard—to every patient who walks through our doors.
I was fortunate to have incredible mentors who guided me every step of the way. If I could share two pieces of advice, they would be these: First, don’t be afraid to take the leap—pursue dentistry your own way and open your own place when you feel ready. Second, surround yourself with great mentors. Whether you’re navigating ownership or simply growing as a dentist, having people you can learn from and grow with is invaluable. There’s so much to master in this profession, and you don’t have to do it alone. Reach out, connect, and you might be surprised at how many people are willing to support you.

David , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I entered college with dreams of becoming a reconstructive plastic surgeon. But after just one day volunteering at a hospital, I realized it wasn’t the environment for me. A friend suggested I shadow a dentist instead. On that very first day, I witnessed the final appointment of a smile reconstruction. I’ll never forget seeing the life-changing impact it had on the patient. The dentist walked me through the entire design process, explaining how every detail needed to harmonize with the patient’s face. I was hooked.
It all came full circle—I was still following in my family’s footsteps, working with my hands, but now in a way that could transform lives. From that moment on, I became a true student of dentistry, learning from world-class dentists and educators who are leaders in their fields. I mastered ultra-conservative techniques that enhance oral health and smiles without unnecessary invasiveness.
This training allows me to do things other dentists might shy away from—like saving highly compromised teeth that others might extract, or creating beautiful smile enhancements while preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible. Today, our practice combines this advanced skill set with an environment designed to feel warm, welcoming, and comfortable. It’s this blend of exceptional care, gentle touch, and uncompromising quality that truly sets us apart.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Social media is, without question, the most powerful tool we have today—and the best part is, it’s free. In our fast-paced, visually driven world, people are quick to forget and quick to judge. They want to see proof with their own eyes and hear directly from others before deciding to visit a doctor, make a purchase, or invest in a service.
That’s why building a personal brand and maintaining a strong online presence isn’t optional—it’s essential. A consistent, authentic social media presence allows potential patients to connect with you before they even step foot in your office. It creates familiarity, builds trust, and showcases your expertise in a way no ad or brochure can.
In healthcare especially, trust is everything. When people see your work, your personality, and your values consistently represented online, they feel more confident choosing you over someone they’ve never heard of. Beyond trust, social media also acts as a magnet—drawing in the exact type of clientele who resonate with your approach, your style, and the quality of care you provide.
When used with intention, social media isn’t just about posting pictures—it’s about telling your story, building relationships, and creating a community around your brand. In today’s digital age, it’s one of the most valuable investments you can make in the growth and success of your practice.

Any advice for managing a team?
Leading by example has been one of the most powerful drivers of my business’s success. There are many ways a person can lead—through inspiration, fear, rewards, or consequences—but I’ve learned that authenticity is the foundation of truly effective leadership.
The best teams I’ve ever been part of were led by inspirational leaders—people whose passion was so genuine it naturally inspired those around them. Their energy set the tone, and that enthusiasm rippled through the entire team.
For many, a job is simply a job. The challenge is figuring out how to make someone excited to come to work, even if their daily tasks might seem routine. In my experience, the only approach that works consistently and sustainably is inspiration.
I strive to empower my team by sharing my passion, involving them in our vision, and helping them discover their own sense of purpose in what we do. Our mission is simple but powerful: to provide exceptional care to our patients. When my team feels connected to that mission—and sees me living it every day—they bring that same dedication and heart to every patient interaction.
