We recently connected with David Carrillo AKA Silencer and have shared our conversation below.
David , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
At first I was just doing music for fun. I was recording music in my room. Nothing professional, just a microphone, 2 tape decks and a mixer. I was recording them on cassette tapes. I kept practicing and was getting better. After a while I finally decided to give out a few cassette tapes I recorded and the response that I got back was very good. At that moment I knew that I wanted to do music professionally.
David , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is David Carrillo. My artist name is Silencer. I was born and raised in San Diego, California. I was 13 years old when I first started doing music. I was working hard on my music, developing my own unique style, my fans love my music because they can relate to it. In 1999 one of my cassette tapes ended up in the hands of a record label and I was offered a deal to release multiple albums under their label. The one thing that I’m most proud of is that I never gave up. No matter how difficult it got, all the ups and downs, I still kept going forward because I was doing something that I love.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to express yourself. It feels good when fans from all the world write me and tell me they grew up listening to my music and that I inspire them.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I feel blessed and grateful for being able todo something that I love. I want to show my son that if you work hard, you can do anything that you want.
