We recently connected with David Britnell and have shared our conversation below.
David, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I started out in photography as a wedding photographer as it was a booming industry and easy to quickly grow a profitable business in. I enjoyed it but it isn’t a passion of mine. That combined with now being married with a young child I didn’t want all my weekends dedicated to work.
After moving to a small mountain town in Colorado I became friends with a number of small business owners doing great things. I felt that they deserved to be recognized for the great work they are doing and grow their businesses so I wanted to help. So I started to have discussions with them about the dreams they had for their businesses and what photo and video projects we could do to help them achieve their dreams.
It has been a great journey so far and I’m excited to see how it continues to grow. I have a great time hanging out with friends, watching them do what they are passionate about, and find creative ways to document it to tell their story.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I feel that the biggest thing that sets me apart from others is that I only work with people and businesses that I believe in and am excited to help grow. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to do what I love for work and I don’t want to waste that on taking on random clients that I’m not excited about. This benefits my clients as well as I am a lot more engaged in the process and able to come up with creative ideas when I’m excited about what they are doing. It is much easier to create work for a client that fits into their vision and mission when I fully understand it and am excited about it as well.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Living in a small town and getting to know people in the community is how it all got started. I was able to start working with friends I made who are doing great things. From their word started to spread with it being such a tight knit group of small business owners. Creating great work that resonates with the business owner and their audience means they are eager to mention my name when talking with others in the community.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
When starting out I was just taking any work that I could find. This gave me experience, paid the bills, and allowed me to discover what I enjoyed and was most passionate about. It is generally beneficial to niche down into a very specific market but you don’t have to start that way. Just start out doing anything and everything you can. You will learn a lot along the way that will end up being a big help with whatever you decide to focus on down the road.
