We caught up with the brilliant and insightful David Boom a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
David, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I would have to say the Entrepreneur Spotlight Event. I felt like we needed a space where we can put all of our small businesses owners and entrepreneurs in a room and watch us thrive! To see us all come together with so many different business ventures really showed me how much this was needed. It was a huge turn out of businesses owners of color and the LGBTQ+ Community.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Grounded in a hospitality background, I’ve had the opportunity to live in Seattle, Houston, Dallas, New York and Los Angeles. Within traveling and relocating I’ve created a name for myself as a Party Professional meaning we can party all day and night but we always manage to make it to work! With that I have also taken my “socialite” platform and turned it into a creative event marketing space. Instead of clubs every weekend, I create invite only events with different concepts, ideas, venues and location were every attendee feels like a VIP.
In addition I have taken my name and logo and created my brand. Find Your Light was a concept I grasped from looking for the one thing that makes you different, special or unique and sharing that to its full potential. Find your spark and light it on fire!! Now staring at the sun and getting that perfect light might be harming to the eyes so I created my own line of shades! Davidboom.com features fresh, stylish and sexy shades that a gender fluid for any and everyone.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think it’s mainly keeping a positive mindset. My social media is exactly who I am in person. Funny, talkative, upfront and honestly a mess at times! I tend to stay away from drama or negative energy because that can not only be draining for me but draining for my career as well.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
It’s the reaction of your peers! Hearing someone say “I’m proud of you” or “I love what you’re doing” just pushes me to do better and work harder. Having someone say “I can’t wait until your next event” takes me right back to the drawing board to create something even more satisfying! All the nerves and hard work pays off to see everyone happy.
