Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to David Becker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
David, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I made the conscience decision to pursue a career as a touring and recording artist when I was 16. Having grown up in a musical family, the path to becoming an artist actually chose me.

David, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began my recording and touring career with the David Becker Tribune in 1984. We recorded a 5 song EP at Warner Brothers Studio in April of that year and hit the road in Germany during the summer. In the fall of 84, we toured throughout the east coast, midwest, southwest and then finally the west coast performing in over 50 college and Universities.
After the tour in 1984, we entered the studio again in July of 1985 and recorded a full 32 – track digital album with Grammy and Emmy winning engineer Chet Himes (Christopher Cross, Carole King). That recording was picked up by MCA records and released in 1986. Our follow up MCA recording, Siberian Express, produced with Grammy winning producer, Ken Caillat (Fleetwood Mac, Colbie Caillat) reached number 1 on the Jazz and contemporary music charts. We continued touring throughout the US, Mexico and Europe. The track Anja, reached the Grammy Ballots in 1988. We have shared the bill with Miles Davis, Chick Corea and many more luminaries.
The DBT has released many more recordings and has performed in the US, Canada, Argentina, Uruguay, Europe, Indonesia, New Zealand and Japan. BATAVIA was voted one of the Best World Music recordings of 2010 by World Music Central.org.
I have also recorded several solo and duo recordings working with musicians as broad as Ron Carter, Pat Metheny and Vince Gill. This year my 20th album will be released. GRAVITATIONALLY BOUND was just recorded in surround sound and will be released in late summer 2024.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think art has always survived because it is a reflection of humanity, but it has no shelf life! That means that much of the art that struggled to find an audience in the past, enjoys high praise and success with a different generation. If I look at my career, there are many early recordings while receiving positive feedback in the initial release timeframe, have gone on to build a solid new fan base with people who were not even born when I recorded it. Exposing as many people to live music/art is by far the best way to insure its survival.

How did you build your audience on social media?
In the early days there was no social media but the tools needed to reach an audience remain the same today. I measure success not by how many records you sell or many shows you play, rather by how much you actually complete. If you want to reach people via social media, you have to finish what you start. If you put a website together, you have to do follow up work.
Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, etc ALL require you to put the time and work into building something. It doesn’t happen on its own.
