We recently connected with David Banks and have shared our conversation below.
David, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
They planted the seed at an early age to do what makes me happy. There were never any talks of a back up plan or a “just in case” option. Were there struggles along the way? Absolutely. I make it a habit to go and visit my mom and step dad every Sunday. I also tell them thank you for putting up with me as often as I can. I think there is something a bit off about us creative right brainers, especially the ones with ADHD [LAUGHS] There was always support for my decision to break away from the normal 9 to 5 world

David, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I originally moved to Los Angeles to attend Musicians Institute (PIT) Being in and out of Metal bands my entire life growing up it was the natural shift to move to LA and take it to the next level. Then the sudden shift of fun 80’s glam rock turned to the grunge era. I was not a fan. I immediately cut my hair and remember walking into a suit shop almost the same week thinking what on earth has happened to me [LAUGHS] I dove right into the commercial world, which seemed very natural since my father was involved in the advertising industry.
It was always around me as a child and I just remembered how much fun he always seemed to be having.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
The first five years of this journey were filled with simply one word over and over. NO I got so used to it that it just became water off a ducks back. I would move on and say oh well.
Giving up never crossed my mind. But I knew it would take me a bit more time than the average Joe.
I will never forget going into the audition callback rooms and having the director know everyone by name except me.
Hi John, Hi Patty, um I don’t know you, who are you? It seemed like everyone but me was making an impression or an impact on the director.
It’s things like that which will make you that much more determined to get ahead.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Being somewhat of an athletic guy for most of my life I will never forget my brother saying wait, you are going for this whole comedic thing, but there is nothing funny or relatable about a guy who is in shape. You need to either pudgy up a bit or get super skinny and lanky. I stopped going to the gym and stopped the protein shakes and dropped 30 pounds and went for the Don Knotts look [LAUGHS]
