We caught up with the brilliant and insightful David Anthony a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
David, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
Building my studios, and the photographer that loves to have fun on set. I would hope people would remember that I’ve always been the go to photographer, or being approachable. Chemistry is what brings my artwork together, and I hope people will remember all the great photos I’ve taken of them. Also, people recognizing my aesthetic.
David, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Photography was suppose to be my minor major, and I would focus more on Graphic Design. Well I ended up taking more art classes at Santa Monica College than taking graphic design courses. I had to take an elective course, and photography was one of the classes. I ended up getting a C in the class(I know right a C…) but the information from the course actually stuck with me. I graduated Santa Monica College with an Associate’s Degree in Public Policy(what a twist right?)
I went to the Art Institute of Los Angeles, to take my Photography career even further. I had a an amazing time taking the photography courses. I was hardly on campus, since I had to work my full time job, so I only took online courses. You can say most of my photography was self taught, and whatever courses I’ve taken on campus, I just ran with it, and developed my photography skills.
I want clients to know that I take pride in my work, and I like to have fun on set. Connection is key to making your photos stand out. Also, that’s what sets me apart from everyone.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Having my very own studio is my main goal. If my first studio succeeds, then I can slowly build my studio empire. I want other creatives to feel at home when they enter my creative space. It will change my life.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
It’s not easy starting a business. All you do is INVEST. In order for you to make money, you have to spend money. Little by little I start getting my lighting equipment, and accessories for my business. Honestly, amazon is literally your best friend. I get all of my equipment from Amazon. The investment works
