Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daveta Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Daveta, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
It is my hope that I build a legacy built on being honest, trustworthy, dedicated, motivated, and capable of achieving anything I set out to do.

Daveta, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am the founding attorney of DWH Law, P.A. I founded my law firm after 7 years of practicing. As a newly barred attorney I went directly into my career choice as a criminal defense attorney with the Public Defender’s Office. After having successfully tried trial cases, proceeding on Motion hearings and depositions I transitioned into private criminal defense work where I learned more about spending more specialized attention to my cases and became more business minded. I eventually navigated out of the criminal defense sector and begin gaining experience in the civil sector with private and corporate companies. Ultimately, my heart has always been in the work Ive done while a criminal defense attorney. I found myself eventually longing for more meaningful work again. To me, the practice of criminal defense is more than about helping someone whose been charged with a criminal case, sometimes it takes understanding a persons story, where they come from, reviewing the case and ultimately seeing what led to this moment, and then strategically setting a goal and plan on how I can provide the best defense while simultaneously maintaining my reputation and integrity.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My story of resilience is a dedication to my late father. My father and I were very close. He and my mother were married and as a child I eventually started to gravitate towards the legal industry. I would say it was my 9th grade year of high school that I had decided I wanted to be a paralegal. I had no one in my family who had been to college yet alone worked in the legal industry. My father immediately instilled into me that I should become an attorney instead. From that point forward, it became my goal to become a criminal defense attorney. During my 3rd year of law school right before its time to begin my studies for the BAR exam my father passed. That was the most tragic loss I could have dealt with and the timing of it all wasnt the best. I was near the end of a goal we set to achieve. I took about 3-5 days off for a break from school and started back. I pushed through my final year, I pusher through 2 days of the BAR exam, and I passed the BAR exam.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My clientele is built on trust, referrals from friends, family, and prior clients, and the outcomes I generate for my clients. Every day that I show up for my clients is an opportunity of gaining another client. They love my communication style, and they love that we are coming up with strategic and mutual goals for the outcome of their case.
