We were lucky to catch up with DaVeon Parks recently and have shared our conversation below.
DaVeon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
Yes, in multiple senses, I feel as if I have been misunderstood. As a child growing up in a very church-going household, it was very hard for me to be myself at all times. It really hit home for me when my own elders would question my sexuality at such a young age because I could dance, loved fashion, and always hung around the females of the family. The moment I got old enough to make my own decisions, I vowed to never let anyone or anything hinder my decision-making when it came to my lifestyle.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I first started off as a model when I built up the courage to try out for the CAU Homecoming Fashion Show ’22. After receiving an acceptance email to walk, I knew in that moment I had done something so out of my comfort zone that I had to keep going. After my first year of modeling, I told myself there was a higher purpose for me. The following year, ’23, I was given the opportunity to direct the Homecoming Fashion Show with the help of my partner in crime. The leadership abilities I gained after taking control of a full production showed me that if I just put my mind to it, I can definitely get it done by all means necessary.
Alongside being a director for multiple fashion shows at Clark Atlanta, I also have the pleasure of running my own company called TheeNewGeneration, where, with God’s wisdom, we create! We show the creative community that there should be zero limitations to something you’ve built for the human eye to recognize and see from your perspective.
In addition to being a visionary, I also had the pleasure of starting my own styling/custom clothing company called UniqueHA, which stands for Unique with Hope and Ambition. We show anyone and everyone that you can curate your signature style with just a unique touch! Make sure you are following both pages on Instagram and get ready for some hot pieces to be featured very soon!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
A particular goal of mine is to help address homelessness with my creativity! I want to be able to give those who had a chance another one, no matter the circumstance. By leveraging my artistic skills and resources, I aim to create opportunities and provide support to those in need. This mission drives me to develop projects that not only raise awareness but also offer tangible solutions to improve the lives of homeless individuals. I believe that through innovative thinking and compassionate action, we can make a significant difference and inspire others to join this cause.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I feel that the world of creatives can stand tall as one community if we just remove all the stereotypes and allow everyone to freely be who they are. By embracing diversity and celebrating each other’s unique perspectives, we can create a more inclusive and vibrant creative space. It’s essential to foster an environment where every individual feels valued and empowered to express their true selves without fear of judgment or discrimination.
