Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dave Tweedie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dave, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I’ve been working with the Make A Wish Foundation for 13 years. They’re really an amazing organization. When called upon I go into the recording studio ( and online during Covid) with the kids to help them write & produce songs for their wish. It’s usually their 1st experience in a music studio. My favorite part is watching them transform from being nervous to letting go and just having fun.
Dave, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Sure.. I’m an award winning Film Composer, Producer ,Songwriter ,Multi-Instrumentalist & Inventor based in Los Angeles. I got into the music industry as a teenager while playing drums in various bands in the SF Bay Area in the late 80’s.
I’m known in the music industry as a one stop shop for music.
I’ve scored music for multiple movies & television shows including Hulu’s Dear Santa Series (2020, 2022) Disney’s Pick Of The Litter (2019 ) Nova’s The Impossible Flight (2018)
The Final Show (2018 Winner Best Score Short Film NYC Independent Film Fest )
Warner Bros Batkid Begins (2015) & FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance (45 episodes Seasons 3-6)
I’m comfortable scoring films ,writing synch music for television and commercials ,producing artists ,writing & producing original music and playing drums with anyone in the studio or live.
I compose ,play and perform all of the instruments on my Film,Television and Commercial projects.
I think what sets me apart is my ability to make music that is simple but also sophisticated. I have the ears and ability to make super complex music but what I actually create is made for everyone to enjoy (not just my nerdy musician friends)
Some of the things I’m most proud of are the friendships I’ve cultivated over the years. I’ve definitely lost folks along the way but I’ve still got friends from early childhood who I keep in touch with along with my worldwide musician tribe.
Currently I’m proud of my project EnSPirits with Victoria Theodore.
We just finished a two month tour of Europe (Italy, Germany, Netherlands, England) and also released our 1st EP (available on all streaming platforms)
Lastly I’m proud of myself for having the discipline to see an idea/invention to fruition by
creating a product that’s a solution for every keyboard player who performs live or plays at home. I can’t go into detail but I just received my first provisional patent for an invention that I’m excited to introduce to the world in 2024.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
To some degree my whole career has been a pivot. I started as a drummer ,then I became a producer/songwriter & then I composed for television shows. From there I’ve scored documentary movies /series’s and currently I’m co- writing a musical called Co-Founders. It’s not always easy but being able to pivot has always allowed me to explore new artistic terrains and grow as a musician.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The real satisfaction is the journey and all the incredible people you meet along the way. What I’d like everyone reading this to take away is that I believe were all capable of whatever we set our minds too. If you have a dream than please pursue it. It doesn’t matter if you achieve it. Its just about going for it. It’s all one big adventure:)
