We recently connected with Dave Noodlez and have shared our conversation below.
Dave, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
So many but one of my favorite projects that I have worked on was ‘Embrace the Brace’.
My friend’s husband has Myeloma Cancer, a disease that affects his vertebrae and requires him to wear a white brace every day. He is also required to go to treatment very often.
One day I saw Elaine “If there’s any way we can support you and Labyrinth let me know.” She responded “Well I was talking to Ray and he thought it would be great if someone can liven up his brace. Maybe you can reach out to John Exit and other artists and see what you can do.” I said “No problem.”
The minute I left our meeting I contacted my friend John Exit. Within a few days John and I reached out to several artists and got the confirmation that they would all be interested in taking part in #EmbraceTheBrace. One week later we were at his house delivering the brace. It was a project I will always remember.
Watch the video to see how it all came together.
Dave, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Music was always the main source of inspiration for me. It took me to places I’d never been before. In my teens, I got into writing songs and poetry, which eventually led to making beats and DJing. I kept exploring the arts until I got found myself pursuing my childhood dream of starting a clothing brand. Once I got that going I wanted to do more with it. So I made it a platform that supported dreamers from all over the world. Today we interview, mentor, educate, design and create projects with people around the globe.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFT’s are another way to support your favorite creators. I believe they will always be part of our lives moving forward. A digital product. I think they can become modern-day souvenirs. I don’t think they will ever replace physical goods in our world. There is nothing like holding things that mean something to us.
However, I see NFTs as something that can compliment those things. Something that can help us remember a place we went to or an artist we love.
I am a big fan of memorabilia. I also like to save things online and archive them. I think NFTs are going this direction. Stereotype Co is in the process of releasing our first collection of NFTs very soon.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Seth Godin’s book ‘Purple Cow’ was the first marketing book I ever read that lit that fire under me to pursue my ideas.
Listening Zig Zigar as a teen and watching ‘How to Make it in America’ were inspiring growing up as I started my business.
Over the last year, these 5 books have motivated me both in my personal and business life:
Will by Will Smith
Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod
Unf*ck Yourself by Gary John Bishop
Warrior of the Light: A Manual by Paulo Coelho
12 Notes: On Life and Creativity by Quincy Jones
Today I spend a lot of time listening to Dave Ramsey. I also like to listen to past interviews and speeches from Jay-Z, Kanye, Warren Buffet, Kobe Bryant, & Russ.
I interview people every week on my podcast the ‘TYPE88 Show’. Every week is a class in session. I listen and take gems from all my guests.
I am constantly learning from my family, friends, colleagues, and collaborators as well.
