We recently connected with Dave Losavio and have shared our conversation below.
Dave, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s go back in time to when you were an intern or apprentice – what’s an interesting story you can share from that stage of your career?
I was an apprentice in 2020 when I began my Real Estate Career. It paid off tremendously for myself and the clients I serve. Grateful to have had this opportunity as I am now doing the same for a new Agent on my team! Also, I am currently mentored every 2 weeks – and he challenges me to get out of my comfort zone and be my ‘future self’. It’s amazing the impact and success this has cultivated. Now, I am currently hosting an intern from the local school district every semester. I teach them Real Estate, how to run and manage a business, along with personal growth and accountability. It’s all about paying it forward, and what started as being an apprentice has become a life long of learning and opportunity for myself, my clients, the industry, and community.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Born in Chicago & raised in the Northwest Suburbs, I’m a 25yr student of sales & negotiation. When the pandemic hit it was more of a ‘staycation’ for me – a time of self reflection, a time to up level, and a time to Live Beyond Default. While reading the book The Alchemist, I realized how similar I was to the boy in the story finding his purpose. I decided 3 things: 1- I wanted to earn money over the 168 hr week, not B2B hours. 2 – I wanted to be more personal and less transactional with my clients. 3 – My friends were all entrepreneurs and I wanted to be like them. So August 10th 2020 I was talking to my friend Stefanie about leaving my B2B sales career – lol more like stalling. At that moment she encouraged me to “quit now” as I would be “jumping out of a plane without a parachute and trusting I would sew one up before I hit the ground”. It made sense, and that evening I decided I would walk away from my career with grace and gratitude on Oct. 20th 2020. I did so, and jumped into residential Real Estate like one of my close friends. I was mentored, studied hard, and became a licensed Realtor in IL. I bring clarity & confidence to clients when buying, selling, or investing in Real Estate. I listen to understand vs. listen to respond. I encourage them to make tough decisions and go for delayed gratification that will pay off in the end. My brand is how I make people feel when they are not with me – leaving them better than when we met, and providing them leadership to make the best Real Estate decisions.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me is two fold: 1 – Past / Current Clients. Staying in contact via phone call, e mail, text messages, social media, or face to face. I care and am curious about what they are doing – family, learning, occupation, recreation, dreams. I enjoy engaging with them, and will ask for reviews and more importantly referrals. Referrals are the key to success, and there is a an art behind the referral game. DM me and I’ll share more about that. 2 – Networking Events. I believe meeting people face to face and making a real connection by being present, listening, and asking mindful questions. Then you connect on socials and engage, perhaps meet for coffee, and invite to your events. It’s creating a community and just bringing value to others without wanting anything in return. Abundance Mindset.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Yes – just hit record and be yourself. Document your days, share with others what you are doing, and give them information insights and valuable takeaways. After those fundamentals, sure you work on hooks, language patterns, consistent branding, and other marketing fundamentals. Don’t push your business – just share. My posts are not all about Real Estate, they are about the community and morning practice and personal growth and encouraging others to be their best selves. Be consistent. Hit record. Take the pic.
