We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dave América. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dave below.
Alright, Dave thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The first time I wanted to play an instrument, I was 8 years old and went to see a friend of mine play with his band, which was called Plutonic (yes, very cosmic). I remember being completely speechless when I saw the bass player. They were doing a cover of Aeroplane by the Red Hot Chili Peppers —though of course, I had absolutely no idea. I was blown away.
At the time, I genuinely thought the song was theirs. I didn’t know what a bass was, who this guy ¨Flea¨was, or that a band called Red Hot Chili Peppers even existed. To me, the bass was just a bigger, cooler-looking guitar with fewer strings.
I went home like I’d just seen God and asked my dad to buy me a bass. I talked to my brothers —who did know who the Red Hot Chili Peppers were— and they gave me a couple of their albums. And that’s how it all started. I just wanted to listen to music, play it, and make some of my own. Everything that came after… was kind of an accident — like most of the beautiful things in life.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a musician and producer from Madrid, but when I was a kid, I dreamed of becoming an astronaut — wearing a helmet, flying through the air, and stepping onto untouched planets. Turns out, outer space didn’t have me on the list, so I ended up taking a serious job — the kind that comes with a suit, a tie, and a lot of pretending to be important.
Now I host Pizza Fría, the best Late Night Show ever recorded in a garage. It’s a show where I tell the stories of little-known musicians — some just getting started, others long forgotten.
Pizza Fría is full of ads and filler segments like “Discovery of the Week” and “Bomb Reports,” carefully crafted to stretch the runtime and keep investors happy. Because even if I never made it to space, I still pulled off something almost as unlikely: hosting the best Late Night Show made in a garage.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
What I like most about being an artist is that I can go get an ice cream whenever I want. I don’t have to ask anyone for permission.
Sometimes I look at my future, and it kind of reminds me of an ice cream scoop slowly melting, drip by drip, down the cone. You have to scoop it up fast before it falls and messes up your hands.
Although… having sticky ice cream hands isn’t the worst thing in the world. It’s not like you’re going to jail for it.
Actually, being sticky is kind of great. Because you touch things, and then you stay stuck to them for hours — even if you didn’t mean to.
And if you think about it, being stuck to something for a long time is a luxury.
Like when my cat spends hours just staring out the window with his eyes closed.
Those little moments in life… you’ve got to learn to appreciate them.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Like I said before, I always dreamed of being an astronaut. Ever since I was a kid, I’d lie down on the grass at the park, look up at the sky, and think, “man, that’s really far away.”
But then I’d see a plane flying by and think, “when I grow up and finally hit my growth spurt, I’ll be tall enough to grab planes with my hands.”
Eventually, I realized I wasn’t going to grow past two meters — and that planes fly thousands of feet above our heads. So, I let go of the astronaut dream.
And since I already had a bass in my hands —a bass I was completely in love with— I started making music… always trying not to keep my feet too close to the ground
