We were lucky to catch up with Daunea recently and have shared our conversation below.
Daunea , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success is relative. So whatever a person’s goal or dream life is , in order to achieve it they must be ambitious, proactive, consistent, aligned, resilient, disciplined, patient, focused, self motivated, humble, determined, strong and optimistic & they must take action. To be successful, I believe that it takes service, you must first learn to serve, assist and provide value to others..I also believe that you should have a willingness to learn, research and to become a subject matter expert in your field/industry. You must be willing to invest in yourself and your success story. It takes having a plan then taking the necessary steps to execute your plan. Having a great team or support system is also helpful & having tenacity is imperative! Success first begins with you having the desire & thought to succeed and want more or better for your life, the next step is to block the noise and put in the work.
Daunea , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Daunea , I’m a full time creative & a fashion entrepreneur. I studied in the Performing Arts as a child, attained my degree in Business & have worked in the fashion industry for over a decade and have now infused those gifts/talents. After working in corporate America for years and experiencing a layoff in the early 2000’s I decided to take the time off to pursue my dream of working in the fashion industry. I began to research and found a course on fashion Styling 101 by Celebrity Stylist Kim Maxwell. I took her amazing course and upon completion she invited me to apply to be an intern at her company (which at the time was Styling a tour for The Dream ). I was honored, I applied and took on the internship, I eventually was promoted to head fashion stylist. I then branched out on my own as a freestyle fashion stylist in 2009 , gained some amazing clients celebs and non and the rest is history. Fast forward to 2013 , I then launched my e-commerce boutique for women Girlie217.com. Shopping my boutique is having a personal shopper/stylist hand pick your pieces without paying a stylist fee! We have stylish looks for every women available online at your fingertips. Presently, Utilizing my knowledge in business and fashion, I not only provide Styling & Personal Shopping services, I also assist other aspiring entrepreneurs with starting their own fashion business (providing wholesale clothing vendor lists and more).
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategies for growing my customer base & clientele would be social media marketing, networking, & being listed in my team’s directory @ThePinkDirectory powered by @PrettyHustlaz
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When COVID-19 initially spread and the world was forced to shut down/quarantine, our shipping time, vendors and inventory were all impacted. Thankfully we were able to discover and take advantage of Business credit, & funding to keep us in motion during that time.
