Alright, Dathisha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I feel like I was destined to own a spa. As a child, I always dreamed of running a beauty salon, although ironically, I grew up to dislike working with hair! My interests naturally gravitated towards esthetics. Leadership runs deep in my family, and I always knew I would create something meaningful in life. Discovering a way to merge my passion for beauty and business has been incredibly fulfilling.
Self-care and personal time have always been priorities for me, I like to take my time. I’ve found that I show up as my best self when I make time for myself. Transitioning into adulthood and beginning a career in “Corporate America” highlighted the disconnect many of us face from ourselves. Some individuals go days, months, or even years without truly checking in with themselves. This realization prompted me to explore why this happens.
Through my research, I concluded that self-care often takes a backseat because we’re not taught to prioritize it, and we may feel that we can’t afford it, whether in terms of time or money. The concept of “affordable luxury” kept resonating with me, coupled with a negative beauty experience I endured. This led to the birth of Alluring Artistry Beauty + Wellness Spa!
Our mission is to make self-care realistic for everyone by offering affordable luxury beauty experiences for both men and women. I believe that taking care of oneself should be accessible and enjoyable.
Dathisha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who are new to me, I go by Dee. I’m a licensed esthetician, esthetics instructor, spa owner + influencer. I’m passionate about the beauty and wellness industry. My journey into this field was quite organic—starting with childhood dreams of owning a beauty salon, which evolved into a deeper interest in skincare, relaxation, and self-care.
I come from a family with a strong tradition of leadership, which inspired me to create something meaningful in my life. Combining my passion for beauty and business, I founded Alluring Artistry Beauty + Wellness Spa with a mission to redefine self-care and make it accessible to everyone.
My transition into the industry took a lot of hard work. I graduated college and had a whole career going when I decided to follow my heart and start a business of my own. I had to make very tough decisions and work crazy hours. Most days I worked 8-5 at the office and lashed 6-midnight and got back up to do it all over again. This journey has shown me that any anything is possible with a little faith and action behind your words but it’s not easy.
At Alluring Artistry, we provide affordable luxury beauty experiences for both men and women. Our services range from rejuvenating facials and relaxing massages to holistic skincare treatments tailored to individual needs. We aim to address the common problem of neglecting self-care due to perceived time and financial constraints.
What sets us apart is our commitment to offering high-quality services that prioritize education to, relaxation and rejuvenation without breaking the bank. We believe that self-care should be enjoyable, not stressful, and our “affordable luxury” concept reflects that ethos.
I’m most proud of creating a space where clients can unwind, recharge, and prioritize their well-being without guilt or hesitation. Our main goal is to empower individuals to invest in themselves and reap the benefits of self-care.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One important lesson I’ve had to unlearn is the “hustler mindset.” At first it feels super motivating and refreshing but ultimately becomes a trap. It’s all about chasing money without setting standards or expectations for yourself. This constant cycle of work, work, work leads to burnout and can result in unsound business decisions. For instance, I once overlooked serious red flags with a potential booth renter because I was fixated on making fast money. This oversight blew up in my face, teaching me a valuable lesson: not all money is good money.
After facing this setback, I realized the importance of slowing down and establishing best practices when recruiting talent to work alongside me. Now, I focus on quality over quantity, setting clear standards, and emphasizing strategic planning. Each setback is a learning opportunity to refine my approach. I have to think of it that way to stay motivated.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Something that significantly contributed to building my reputation in the community was the development of my personal brand. Having previously worked as a brand ambassador for a larger company, I was fortunate to have established connections, which helped to create a strong foundation for Alluring Artistry Beauty + Wellness Spa.
I made it a priority to prioritize education for my clients. It’s common in the beauty industry for services to be provided without discussing the condition or health of the skin or hair. However, in esthetics, that doesn’t work. By focusing on client education and personalized experiences, I’ve been able to differentiate myself and build a reputation for delivering exceptional service and results.
