We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful DatBussaJumbo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with DatBussaJumbo below.
Alright, DatBussaJumbo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always been around music and the business behind it. My dad was a DJ back in the day and he even had shows with the likes of artists like Lil Jon. Because of that, my interest in music grew immensely. What really made me want to hop headfirst into rapping was when one of my favorite rappers, Gucci Mane, got released from prison back in 2016. I found it inspiring how he was able to change his life around while in prison. He came out sober, lost a hell of a lot of weight, and was still able to drop music and do numbers as if he never went away. If he was able to go through all that adversity and turmoil and still succeed, I told myself I could do it too. And the rest is history.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Aye man it’s ya boi Jumbo, DatBussaJumbo, the one and f*cking only. I’m here to f*ck sh*t up and have a good time baby yadiggg. I’m an upcoming rapper/recording artist and I specialize in what I like to call “concussion muzik”, which is a sound that makes you bop and shake yo head, make a stank face, and just turn up and go crazy. When I get in the studio my goal is to make shit that makes people feel good, turn up, and forget about all the negative things that may be going on in their lives. Music is everything to me. I cannot see myself being me without my craft and I hope to go all the way with this shit and really make an impact on the world like I envision.
I recently got into modeling as well. This creative aspect of myself is still developing, but so far it’s been really fun and fulfilling. People have always told me that I should model so I’m glad I finally got into it. I love clothing and fashion and being able to present myself while modeling is an art in itself that I find very satisfying. I hope to go all the way with this as well in addition to the music.
I want to be multi-faceted and I believe I can do whatever I put my mind to. Anything is possible and I will never let anyone tell me otherwise. I wouldn’t be Jumbo if I were to do anything less.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of my artistry is the final output and perception of it. I love it when I make a song and it comes out exactly how I wanted it to. What’s even more rewarding than that is when my audience perceives my music the exact way I imagined them to. I make music to make people feel good and lose their minds, so when I see a fan going crazy to one of my songs or sending me a message about how much they enjoyed it, that’s one of the most rewarding and best feelings in the world.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
There is so much shit I go through as a creative/artist that even if I explain it, non-creatives will never truly grasp and understand it all. If I had to say one thing though, it would be that the amount of work I put behind these 2-minute songs, 5-minute YouTube videos, thirty-second tiktoks/reels, and outfits is more than one could imagine. There is so much behind-the-scenes work going on behind the content and music I put out. And other creatives can agree. That is why I think it is important to respect people that do the shit we do because it’s not easy. It’s mad time time-consuming and difficult, nevertheless, we love it so it’s worth it. I think non-creatives need to understand this is the way we express ourselves and this is our outlet. Without this shit, we are damn near nothing, so it means everything to us. All creatives should be respected and appreciated because not everyone can do what we can. We experience scrutiny, hate, nay-sayers, etc, but we still push on because we believe we can prevail over the inhibitions set upon us by others and society.
