We were lucky to catch up with Dat Mayne DeeWayne Goodloe recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dat Mayne DeeWayne , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
The question of legacy is an important one however I don’t believe it is one that anyone can answer for themselves. What I mean when I say that a person can only add or take away from their legacy but it isn’t complete until your story is completed be if in a career or a life.
Your legacy is all encompassing, the good and the bad, and how you are viewed by your peers.
I want my legacy to be one of greatness as witnessed through how I built my family, how I raised my kids, what I’ve accomplished in my career and how I overcame adversity.
Our legacies are built through our actions but can only be defined by how it is objectively viewed by others.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Dat Mayne DeeWayne and I am a film maker. I have worked in video production all of my life. Ive been “directing” productions since I was a kid putting together “productions” with my cousins. If you ask them they may say I was just being bossy however my vision has always been clear.
I am CEO of Good Visualz Productions, a production company based in Texas, we provide video production for various productions including but not limited to commercials, live event production, music videos and films.
I am a NAACP award winning Director whose film, Policing, was Executive Produced by the NAACP and Ford. The film was premiered in Hollywood to kickoff the 2020 NAACP Image awards. I also have several other productions to my credit that I wrote and Directed including Freeword: Moment of Impact and our sitcom entitled The Odd Life of Shay Little with season 2 coming later this year.
In my belief something that sets me apart would be my desire to be my best and to always put my best foot forward but also my determination to reach my goals which is to produce feature films at the highest levels and to be a spark for other film makers that come from where I come from.
Coming up on the Eastside of San Antonio I was told it wasn’t possible for me to reach my goals from here much less make any real noise in the “industry”. I have literally built this from the mud and am proud of what we have accomplished so far but I am far from finished and continue to build towards my end goal.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Funding my business has always been a task. It’s not easy to get into any field without capital, especially filmmaking because there is alot to consider such as what level am I trying to compete at, the quality of your cast and crew and great quality isn’t cheap. I also have to consider, not only production cost, but pre and post production including marketing and everything in between. Film festivals, movie premieres, catering, location costs, props, make-up, travel, room and board and more the list goes on and on. Funding to start everything has been out of my own pockets as well as still taking care of life’s responsibilities.
I am determined to build my business and dreams into reality so I’ve always felt that is just part of the journey. My goal is to become a trusted brand for entertainment and a force to take seriously. In the interim I am building regionally but to be recognized nationwide I have to continue getting better and building on relationships that I am making everyday.
Now that we built an audience (however small or large it is) we now have viewers that we can use to sale ad space to our sponsors or for other businesses looking to market to our audience. This has been huge in building budgets for our productions.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Our social media presence is an ongoing mission and one we are always thinking about building upon. In my industry content is key or should I say entertaining content is key.
The goal is to be producing feature films however building the trust with our audience that we are entertaining and produce quality productions is key. My wife is also my business partner and she has been managing our content and engagement learning from each campaign we run what works and what does not.
Your audience is your leverage. Your numbers can be and are key in your success and the ability to reach the masses. Consistency and flexibility is the best way to build your social media presence.
