We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Darynn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Darynn below.
Darynn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I came up with the idea for my business during my freshman year at South Carolina State University. Originally, the idea was to start my own brand of lip balms or chapsticks. I figured that, that wouldn’t be enough. So, I thought about what i could add to it to expand the idea. I thought about my own personal experiences with my skin and decided to make it a full out skin care brand. I then began to research didn’t types of products and natural regimens for the skin. Also, I looked for different materials and packaging and ways to set my brand apart from other businesses. It wasn’t until my senior year, that I finally took the risk to put the idea into motion and launch my business. I had to create a budget, branding and marketing ideas, cost of goods, and other things. I had delays with launching due to global pandemic, but overall it was a success.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My business is called SKYNN by Darynn. It’s a multicultural brand for all skin tones and complexions. I sell all natural skin care products handmade by myself. I got into this industry because of my own personal experiences with skin care and discrepancies. As a child, I had eczema pretty bad. Then came acne when I was teenager. I could never find products in stores that would work for my skin. Now I’m able to create my own regimens and products from all natural ingredients that work. I’ve helped many people renew their skin along the way since beginning this journey. That’s what I’m most proud of. Accolades and recognition is always nice, but actually seeing that my brand helps people is what’s most rewarding. I want my supporters to know that it’s because of them that my business continues to grown and reach new people. I love them deeply.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been social media as well as participating in different events as a vendor.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think that the way that I brand my business has helped build my reputation in my market. Also, the clientele that I have are really supportive and always spreading the word for me.
