Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daryll Wharton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Dr. Daryll thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
My defining moment was when I realized that my weight loss surgery failed and I had not done anything about it in over 10 years. I found myself feeling those same feelings that I felt when I weight 674 pounds. I felt ugly, miserable, hopeless, and I was crying every day again.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Once I decided to do something about my failed surgery, I started exercising. It gave me peace and I started seeing some results. I loved going to Hot Hula fitness and decided to get certified. I thought I was starting an exercise business. However, the more I taught and saw that the women attending my classes could not even look at themselves in the mirror, I was actually coaching them in building confidence, self-esteem, and body acceptance. I took teaching that class more seriously because I was helping them women to feel beautiful and sexy for 60 minutes. I then decided to get my certification in Life and Health Coaching. I birthed my coaching business and I haven’t looked back since. In my business, I coach women to break free from society’s beauty standards and the guilt and shame of struggling to lose weight, keep it off, and feel amazing about themselves during their transformation. I teach them the effective strategies of my framework that helped me to jumpstart my weight loss, lose and keep off over 400 pounds, eat food that heals and nurtures my body, and build confidence to maintain the transformation.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
People are in awe of hearing that I used to weigh 674 pounds and that I’ve lost over 400 pounds. What they don’t know is that I love the 674 pound me. She was amazing. I don’t know how she carried the weight of 3 people around all day and managed to be pretty much healthy. I commend her for lasting for as long as she did. Her resilience got me to where I am today.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I’m grateful that I have the qualifications to do what I do because I have degrees in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Leadership, and Life and health coaching certifications. What makes me an expert is my experience of being super morbidly obese, going through rollercoaster dieting, having a failed weight loss surgery, finding my inner power, transforming my mindset, losing over 400 pounds, accepting myself, and choosing to not live by society’s beauty standards to living the Cute Curvy Confident lifestyle.
