Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Darron-ray Donaldson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Darron-Ray , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
It would have to be working on the “One Love” movie in Jamaica. I got to work with hundreds of different people and experience what it’s like working on a project of that scale. Working on projects based of a person, or their life story, you get to see the reactions of their loved ones or the people that knew them. I can’t begin to describe what is it like hearing the reactions of others and also watching it being filmed in person. That brought a whole new appreciation for the industry and for the pride that I have being a Jamaican
Darron-Ray , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started off as a business major in my local university and a friend of mine started a talent agency. She asked me if I wanted to be a part of her agency. I’ve only ever done one commercial when I was 6 years old, so I thought, why not? What could I lose and maybe I might get some money out of this. So I spent time, going to every single audition I could find, talking to anyone I could about the film industry and the more time I spent at auditions, was the more people I met and the more opportunities I was privy to because of being a part of those conversations. Now I mainly do commercials, short films, full featured films, music videos, anything related to film. I even work as a PA or an AD on set. I try to keep myself as busy as possible and I want to go to workshops/classes on acting and also directing, in hopes of getting more opportunities and also growing and nurturing my craft in the industry
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It has to be the reaction of the audience when you finished your performance on stage, or when you have worked on any project and it has benefited the client or whoever the project is for in some way. I once helped advertise a small business by creating skits about their business to try and bring more attention to them online. The owner came to me later on in the year and said that, the skits brought a lot of attention and it helped meet most of his goals for the year that the skit came out. That to me is the best feeling, because it helps bring purpose to what I do and I’m glad I can help people along my journey
How did you build your audience on social media?
All I can say is, I went to every single audition, I went to every single space I could find involving the industry or what I heard about the industry. I tried to ask as many questions as possible and wasn’t afraid to sound stupid or be rejected because I knew that this was the field that I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life.
