We recently connected with Darrion Castillo and have shared our conversation below.
Darrion, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
Before The Blowup was started because I wanted those dedicated creatives to feel supported. Often times it feels like you will never be able to do what you love for a living unless you have loads of money and followers. I remember working a 9-5 that literally made me sick and depressed, but I stayed there to support myself all the while my dreams were on hold. I never want to feel that way again and I want to save other creatives from that fate as well.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Darrion Castillo the CEO and founder of Before The Blowup LLC. I got into this industry by making 30 second TikToks about amazing talent here in the DFW area. At before The Blowup we provide marketing to all creatives BEFORE THEY BLOWUP in the form of interviews, showcases, mixers and so much more
We want creatives to feel supported and showcase their talents all while bringing them together with likeminded individuals.
I am most proud of my team! I truly have THE best team sent by God himself.
I want every creative in the DFW to know that Before The Blowup is here for you, you are NOT alone! Working with Before The Blowup will be an amazing experience every time because there is no hidden agenda we just want you to do what you love and feel appreciated.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective “strategy” to grow clientele is to get out in the community and speak with people or word of mouth! I am more old fashioned when it comes to making genuine relationships, I like to meet people in person and just have conversations and so, I carried that over to my business and it works best for me…. However I am still hoping to be the Kieth Lee of local creatives the DFW give me a song I’ll rate it 1-10 LOL.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
As my team is growing I am learning more about what keeps them happy. Here are a few things I am implementing to keep morale high.
1.) Be up front and honest with them ( Let them know what’s going on rather good or bad because it effects them)
2.) Give them what they need to succeed at their position and trust them to get the job done! (You shouldn’t hire people and then breathe down their necks that is a waste of everyone’s time and they will leave.)
3.) Genuinely care for them! (Every opportunity I get to spoil my team I am going to take it because I value them more than Earthly possessions, they are chosen family to me. Money isn’t the only way to spoil your team, sometimes just an email letting them know you appreciate them could make a huge difference.)
