Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Darrin Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Darrin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
The type of music I make is a lot different from my peers and contemporaries. As well as my style; from my nails to my skinny jeans. When people first see me and hear me speak they usually think one way but when they hear my music and vibe with me for a while they eventually start to understand. I’ve actually gotten used to it and turned it to a form of gratification because I can see them start to understand me as they’re listening and putting all the pieces of me together so to speak.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Darrin Jones and I’m 25 year old independent artist from Columbus, Georgia. I’ve been into music and art my whole life but started taking it more serious and truly pursuing it after I graduated high school. Right now I’m focused on my music, which is heavily pop influenced, and working on my line, Cranios Leather.
The main thing I want people to understand from my art etc is that it’s about being real, having fun and just being pure you.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Gaining fans and supporters and seeing the things you craft affect the lives of others knowing they appreciate it and want more. When I notice it, it’s a little odd at first but there’s also an amount of gratification that comes with it.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Understand that everyone is different and the things they create will be different. So if most people understood that there would be less negative criticism just positive criticism and if there’s something they don’t like they don’t have to trash it just scroll passed it or move on from the shit.
