We recently connected with Darrien Dickson and have shared our conversation below.
Darrien, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
I would change the reality of the educational system. Currently the system is broken, there are not enough real life situations and facts taught to the future adults of America.
Let’s start with the accuracy of American history. It’s time to be completely honest and put it all out on the table. Then the true healing and love can begin for all. Teachers shouldn’t be forced to teach lies. Children grow up to be adults and do their own research, when this happens then it leaves a bad taste on the system when you realize all of the false narratives. I think all of the history books need to be UPDATED, asap. The current books should reflect all of the trials and changes over the past three decades and where we are today as a nation.
In regards, to preparing students for fulfilling lives, some areas of focus that should be a requirement in middle and high school are: financial Iiteracy, dealing with adversity and stress, more team projects (you’d be surprised how many adults don’t know how to work well with others), classes on credit, problem solving, career projections/salary/cost of living courses, communication and delivery.
Darrien, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got my real estate license in 2016. I was always interested in real estate, the overall process and day to day intrigued me. The leverage and limitless opportunities you have with real estate is mind blowing. My only regret is not getting into it sooner. I purchased my first home at 27 and that begin the journey. A few years later I played with the idea of becoming an agent. Then, I purchased another home and said it’s time. I currently work with buyers, sellers, and investors. I pride myself on being able to meet my clients expectations: communication, availability, and getting them the most for their bang. Whether it’s setting the comparable record in the neighborhood on the seller side, to purchasing with a large amount of equity in a crazy market for buyers, to maximizing the profit on a flip and sale for an investor. I’ve done it all!!!!!
I’m most proud to be able to assist first time home buyers, there are so many people who think they could never be in a position to own. To help them navigate through this and come out on the other side a home owner is rewarding. I want my current and future followers to know that if you hire me as your agent, I’m willing to do the work. As long as you are willing to stick to the plan, together we can accomplish your real estate goals. I meet with all of my clients ( buyers, sellers, and investors) and create plans to ensure the working relationship works for all parties. Everyone is unique and each plan is created specifically for you.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source for new clients for me has been word of mouth. Thankfully, I have some amazing relationships with my family and close friends. I’m thankful for these relationships.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2018, I was laid off from my corporate job of 11.5 years. At this time I had no choice but to pivot. I decided to take some time off to figure out what I really wanted to do. At the end of my revelation, I decided to become a full time Realtor instead of a part time agent. Things drastically changed in my life after this, and here I stand now. I rebranded and decided to share more about my life. As a result, I’ve connected with so many people and I’m loving the journey.
