Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Darrell Black. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Darrell, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Many opportunities in all creative fields exist for anyone who stays persistent and determined never giving up on your dreams. This positive attitude, will often entail taking risks that are sometimes advantageous to your artistic career but more often then not the risk taking leads nowhere, which becomes very discouraging and disappointing for many creatives who falsely believe that rejection means you have no talent. This narrative, results in artists giving up too soon on their dreams of art world stardom and artistic expression.
Darrell, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Since early childhood I’ve always been creative, using pencils and crayons on notebook paper to create artworks that helped me escape into a world that i can create and control. As I got older, my family, friends and acquaintances encouraged me to pursue my artistic dreams.and with many years of trial and error I managed to create my own art form called “Definism” defined as artwork with corresponding titles that can be interpreted by any viewer, taking away all the guess work of what the artist meant to say with the image. My most memorable art displays to date have been a digital art display at the Louvre Museum Paris, My artwork image on a giant billboard on the W building in Times Square New York City and my artwork design on the panel of a Super Dove observational satellite currently in sun synchronous orbit.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Living life creatively is very fulfilling, since creativity starts in the mind’s eye and ends up as a realistic piece of artwork that can be ridiculed by some and enjoyed by all who love creative expression. The visual artist, is a fickle lifestyle which allows you to hold on to your individualism within a modern day society while pushing the boundaries of art and design to create interesting images of wonder and curiosity..
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My ultimate goal as a visual artist is to interpret as much of the real world around me in artistic terms that express hope and love for humanity. My artistic mission, is to create an artwork experience of possibilities in all subject matter that every art patron can identify with and elaborate on in creative terms. This is my legacy, passing this message of hope and survival in artistic form down to future art loving generations.
