We recently connected with Darnica Gordon and have shared our conversation below.
Darnica, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’m here to share about my journal Worth Far More Than Rubies but let’s start at the beginning. I started a business called Christ It Up which is designed to spread the Gospel in a Fresh Way. In doing that God gave me the idea to create a workbook geared toward women to reevaluate their worth and see themselves as God sees them.
God gave me the words and I literally put them on paper. I am so passionate about sharing the Gospel as well as encouraging girls and women to understand their worth, so when God gave this to me I was so excited! Then…nothing. After giving it to family and friends there was no traction. I then created it in journal form and published it on Amazon.
I love that I’m able to help women, young and seasoned, clearly see who they are.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
So I was born, raised, and live in Pittsburgh, Pa. with my 3 amazingly wonderful children. Currently, I am the creator of the Worth Far More than Rubies Journal and Owner & Editor of Christ It Up Magazine. I absolutely love reading and writing. I am also on a journey to encourage women to understand their worth as well as speaking on how to process grief & loss caused by death and/or divorce.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
Putting Worth Far More than Rubies on Amazon was a great move for me because their system makes the process so easy. And obviously, it’s well-known! The only downside to selling on Amazon is watching your sales but having to wait for the revenue lol. Besides that, I love having Amazon as an available platform!

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
The main reason I am able to speak on this is because I managed a small business for about 10 years. In managing a team it is very important to know the personalities within your team and everyone’s strengths and weaknesses. I feel this allows for the business to run smoothly and you are able to encourage those in areas where they can grow.
Maintaining high morale is extremely important because, I mean, we all have to work and sometimes it’s okay for it not to feel like it. So showing appreciation, throwing a party, giving rewards and promotions, are all ways to keep the team happy and striving.
