We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Darnell Woodfork. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Darnell below.
Darnell, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
With prior experience cutting hair at a barbershop when i was 17 years old. I came up with the idea of working for myself after growing tired of working as a mechanic at Toyota. Sitting on my tool box on a slow day i would scroll through social media and come across barbers posting haircuts and other services. I figured i could do the same, but since i was still employed as a mechanic i figured working after work and going to peoples houses would be better. I knew it would work family and friends and strangers would always compliment my haircuts that i would do on my own hair.

Darnell, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My appreciation for barbering didnt hit me till later in life. I originally only cared about taking as few classes as possible during my Jr. and Senior year at Suitland High School. So, i took advantage of the Technical Education program the school offered. Later became an apprentice at a local barbershop. While at work i observed, learned, and planned. Until one day i asked a friend to come in for a haircut on one of the busiest days of the week to help get exposure. Years later i now have my own suite where i provide basic haircut services, hair and beard wash services , along with facial cleansing services. what sets me apart from others is that its really little to no wait when coming for your appointment, offering snacks, coffee, and refreshments. Im proud of the fact that i took a chance on myself quitting my 9-5 job with a new born son, working for myself has been the best decision i made. I want people to know that if you have a vison and passion for something do it! Do not be afraid of not succeeding right away, just like driving you cannot reach your destination without taking the proper route to get there

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele was taking an advantage of the boost promotion feature on instagram, also word of mouth from my clients i already had .
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep in touch with my clients now with the message blast feature on my booking app (TheCutApp)
