Today we’d like to introduce you to Darla Nelson
Hi Darla, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been a Certified Life and Health Coach since 2017. Previously I was a financial advisor for over 10 years. Having gone through the down economy of 2008-2010 as an advisor and all the stress that that entailed, as well as my father passing away a few years later, I knew I was ready for a new career. I will never forget the day I made the decision to let all my state licensing go, to instead go back to school for life coaching. Best decision ever.
In 2010-2011, I remember standing in the shower, half of my body was numb, I had seen many doctors and thankfully all the testing came back negative. And yet I knew something was wrong. After much prayer, thought, I realized my body was responding to stress. I knew I had to change my life. And so, in 2012 when I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, the doctor gave me a prescription and I quickly gave it right back to her, because I first wanted to see if I could change my life through nutrition, exercise, mindset. This became a passion for mine, and led to me attending the Health Coach Institute where I was dually certified for Life and Health. Thankfully, my lifestyle choices, and my focus of how our minds can influence our health, led me to this career that I just love.
I have been coaching online, and in person since 2017, helping women, and a few men, that are experiencing stress and anxiety, to embrace healthy habits, that lead to a life of more peace and calm. I also host annual women’s events called BLOSSOM in the spring and AUTUMN in the fall.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh, how I wish I could say yes to this. It absolutely has not been a smooth road. It has taken a consistent social media presence, as well as being out in the community, whether in person, or online, to get to know more people personally. I love networking and really getting to know people. I want people to know I am not just about making a sell, and yet rather, I truly care about them and their personal journeys.
Of course, with any business, it takes commitment, showing up even when you are discouraged, tired, and believing in what I am doing. It takes believing so much in my journey that I was willing to invest in myself and in my business.
Thankfully, too, I have a very supportive husband and family who believes in my mission and why I have such a love for others.
We’ve been impressed with Darla Nelson-Life Coaching, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a Life Coach, I am known as the “Habit Changer”. People often get overwhelmed when they think about changes, they need to make in their lives, and I love helping them realize that we just need to focus on one day at a time. Often when a client will come to me, they are coming with a specific goal in mind, and what they often don’t realize is there is an underlying issue, experience, that we first need to address before they will get results. This brings freedom.
Our minds are powerful. By learning how to address life differently, even by how we think and talk to ourselves (because yes, we all do!) we begin to see change. We learn to respond to life versus react.
I believe what sets me a part is that I am a Christian Life Coach as well, and I am able to help my clients find comfort and joy, in more than just what this life offers. I am often told that my calmness towards life has an effect on others. I believe that life, with all its struggles, and victories, has purpose. Every chapter of our life matters. Even the really hard ones. If we try to remove a chapter of our life that maybe we didn’t like, we regret, the next chapter won’t make sense.
A favorite saying of mine is that “trust and control” cannot coexist. So often we say we trust, and yet we try and control the situation. When we let go, and just be, it truly is amazing the results we will have.
I also believe that “energy begats energy”. If we are negative, more negative will come. If we are kind, kindness comes back to us.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
what city are we referring to??
