We were lucky to catch up with Darkrose recently and have shared our conversation below.
Darkrose, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I started creating music at 15. Honestly at the time I didn’t take it as serious as I should have. I could have created a support base early. School is the best ways to start creating music in my opinion because you can share your music to whoever is around you. You can build a fan base from there and expand locally. I was just making music for expression I wasn’t focused on the bigger picture. If I had been thinking differently earlier I probably would be more of a staple where I’m from. If I really think about it I would have changed so many things. Probably would have built more of a fan base early. I deleted my instagram a few times I wouldn’t have did that. I don’t think I would have started sooner just been smarter but I was a kid.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello for those unfamiliar my name is Darkrose. I’m an independent music artist from Nashville Tennessee. I create cloud rap, indie folk, r&b amongst other genres. I have surpassed 50 million streams and have wrote hundreds of songs. I got into the music industry officially in about 2021. Although being independent I am signed to a admin record deal. I create music for those who relate to pain , heartbreak , love or any emotion . I try to be as honest as I can and vulnerable with my music. I’m not just making songs I’m telling true stories and expressing real situations. However I’m feeling I put it all on the table for my fans . I think what sets me apart from other artists is I realize the longevity in music. It’s a craft to me where I understand how to make you feel something. I don’t just make music for a quick hit I’m making something you will want to listen to again years later. I’m making history. With the help of various engineers who helped me hone into my sound like Dominik Chelminski, Tyler Garner , Colin Dobash, I’ve created my own musical personality. I don’t have label help everything I’ve accomplished has been a blessing. I’ve never had major marketing or label help it’s just consistency and quality. I think I’m most proud of everything. I didn’t grow up wealthy or partly even middle class being raised in Nashville Tennessee. I’m one of those kids who started working at 15 to help his parent pay bills . I used my jobs to help fund my music career when I was younger. I’m a person inspired by music to the point it’s all I could think about. I had a aspiration to make music and create a career out of it. I feel I manifested where I am but also it was a path made for me. You don’t get here by luck alone it’s so many things that are in consideration. I want the people who listen to my music to know when they listen to me you might cry. I tap into memories when I create a song so you may find yourself reminiscing a lost love . You may be reminded by an intense heartbreak or have de ja vu about love. I want people to know I am a true artist because it has always been about the craft in the music for me. I want to be that safe space for those whatever they go through. That’s what defines me.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In my opinion to support artists all you have to do is stream the music. It took me about 4 years to get a million streams. I’ve only been professional since about 2021. The people who listen and follow me contribute to my growth. I don’t have extra funding being thrown at me I’m basically doing it all myself. When it comes to shows and music videos and everything it’s all self funded . I’m grateful enough to have enough streams to where it can suffice living situations. I’m nothing without my fans. If you want to support a artist who genuinely wants to make good music and came this far by the grace of god stream Darkrose on Spotify and all streaming platforms.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for me is inspiring people to break barriers of what is normal to them. I am from music city so music has always been apart of my life. My favorite artists have been Ben Howard, The Fray, Bon Iver , Frank Ocean to name a few. I like music where when you listen you correlate and it sends a response to your brain. It can uplift your mood or make you cry or pump you up. I like when I check my messages and people tell me how something I created got them through depression or a bad breakup. I love the stories of how someone listened to a song and even tho they’re from a small town started making music that doesn’t exactly fit their demographic area. It’s the small things for me . I love checking streams and just seeing people are listening to something I made you know. I put my pain into music , all my scars , tears , anger I put it into music, I’ve had to overcome so many obstacles just to get to where I am. I think back sometimes on my struggle and it would be selfish of me not to see the reward in everything. I would like to have a huge label helping me , I would like to have millions of dollars so I can create the vision I want . I’m not there yet it’s just me and my team rn. Every thing is a reward to me.
