We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Darius Wilson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Darius thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Operating With a Broken Heart, where resilience meets fashion. Founded on the belief that adversity can be transformed into strength, our brand symbolizes the power of turning a setback into a comeback. We understand that life deals us a challenging hand at times, but it’s how we play those cards that truly defines us. Through our clothing, we strive to inspire and motivate others to embrace their struggles and transform their pain into passion. Every stitch, every design, tells a story of overcoming obstacles and rising above adversity. Join us on this journey of empowerment, where wearing your heart on your sleeve isn’t just a saying—it’s a way of life..
Behind the name & the mission is my personal story. About 2 years ago, I found out I was suffering from heart failure. It changed my life completely. First, for the worse & then for the better. I had gained so much weight, stopped working & socializing. Went into a depression. Things got dark. But then, I decided to turn this pain. This big change in my life into a super power. To turn the pain into a passion. Even tho I was dealt a bad hand, I could still hit the jackpot. & did by coming up with my brand. “OWABH”. “Operating With A Broken Heart” I had to learn how to operated u see these unfortunate circumstances, but they didn’t stop me from winning. The goal behind the brand was to show everyone that they can do the same. Turn the pain into passions. The pain into profits

Darius, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Bruce, I am a creative/ business owner/ husband/ man of the people. I got into the rental car business because of my love for cars. I thought how could I own all of my dream cars without having to pay for them? The answer was to rent them out. Let people pay for them while making a profit. So I’m making money by owning all of my dream cars. Started with 1 & kept going & going until I had a full fleet of sports & luxury vehicles. All of the cars I’ve dreamt about owning as a kid. Then the clothing brand. I’ve always wanted a clothing brand. I went to school for graphic design so the logo was easy, always had an eye for fashion. So when I got sick & decided on a mission. Found my purpose. The brand was the best way I thought to push that mission. To motivate & inspire through my brand. With the brand came multiple changes like discipline. Having heart problems, it “forced” me into the fitness life. But it became therapeutic. Getting 3-6 miles in a day. Dieting & watching what I eat. It became part of lifestyle. The day to day & as much as I hate to say it, once I got into the fitness world life got so much better. Not just from the weight loss. But from the mental clarity. To the changes in the way I think, the way I move. the opportunities. To literally everything. Starting my day with a run is the greatest thing I ever did.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
You can have partners, but in the end it is up to you to hold it down. You can’t depend on anyone to bring your dreams into fruition. Yes, you may find another hustler like you or a partner with drive like you. But if your visions & end goals don’t align completely, they will not put the work in that you will because they have their own end goals. I have gone into business with friends & got let down. With family & got let down. Because no one wanted it as bad as I did. & I can’t fault them, they had different dreams. They wanted to money, but not the route that I took

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience : the capacity to withstand or recover quickly from difficulties. The best story I have was when I found out I was sick. I could have folded. I admit, for a moment I did. It got dark. I almost gave up on everything. I saw no way out. But then I remembered who I was. A man who has always won. A man who no matter the cards he was dealt, gets everything that he wants. So I bounced back. I stop feeling bad for myself & got to work. Started doing miles every morning. Walking 1 mile at first. Then making my way to 2, to 3, to 6.Walking until I could run. Loosing 5 pounds, then 50, then 200. Making the change for myself, but showcasing to motivate others. To show the world that I am not special. If I can do it, so can you. We are all capable of getting whatever we want In life. Just have to put the work in
