We recently connected with Darius “Droyd” Bryant and have shared our conversation below.
Darius “Droyd”, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
My brand is renowned for its exceptional product (music), seamlessly blending musicality with industry standards. What sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to preserving my original identity while constantly evolving and incorporating innovative approaches into my work. This dynamic fusion has propelled me to achieve remarkable success in my career, my greatest success being producing the song “Focus” for Super Kpop group NCT 127 which has become one of the most memorable songs on the project because of me and my team maintaining our sonic imprint.
Darius “Droyd”, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Dear readers, allow me to introduce myself as Droyd, a Multi Platinum & Gold music producer, songwriter, and a versatile entrepreneur. My journey in the music industry has been nothing short of extraordinary. Not only am I deeply involved in music production and songwriting, but I also wear multiple hats as a music and business consultant, as well as a landlord.
While music has always been an integral part of my life, my foray into the captivating world of Kpop was a serendipitous moment. It was my manager, Vakseen, who presented me with an incredible opportunity to co-produce a song called “One Of These Nights” for the immensely talented Kpop girl group, “Red Velvet.” The success we achieved with that project served as my foot in the door, opening up a whole new realm of possibilities within the Kpop industry.
In the realm of business, I have learned that discipline and patience are paramount. The music industry is unpredictable, and one must trust the timing of their turn. During the slower days, I view them as invaluable moments of preparation, honing my skills and creating unique and exceptional products. When the time comes, and it always does, I am ready to embrace the whirlwind of activity that follows success.
At DroydDidDat LLC, we offer a comprehensive range of services, including music production, songwriting, mixing, mastering, consulting, workshops, and even instrumentalist and vocalist support. Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In my musical journey, I have come to realize that resilience is not just a quality, but an absolute necessity that we must embody every single day, for the rest of our lives. As music producers, we face rejection on a regular basis, and it takes an unwavering resilience and inner strength to persevere and continue presenting our work, knowing that a life-changing ‘yes’ is waiting for us out there.
I vividly recall the early days of my career, when I eagerly auditioned tracks for numerous projects, only to face rejection. However, I refused to let those setbacks define my worth or talent. Instead, I channeled that energy into sharpening my skills, determined to become the best version of myself. And before I knew it, I found myself producing for a remarkable Jpop artist named “A.I.” It was at that pivotal moment that everything began to shift, as I realized deep within that I possessed the undeniable ability to create music for major artists. From that point forward, I embraced a newfound confidence and resilience, allowing it to permeate every aspect of my life.
Resilience, in my experience, is not just a mindset, but a way of living. It is the unwavering belief in oneself, the unyielding determination to overcome obstacles, and the audacity to walk boldly in the direction of our dreams. It is this resilience that has propelled me to unimaginable heights, and I am confident that it will continue to guide me towards even greater success in the future.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
In my pursuit of following my dreams as a music producer, I embarked on a transformative journey that required me to unlearn a deeply ingrained belief: the notion that failure is not okay. For the longest time, I held onto the misconception that any misstep or setback was a reflection of my inadequacy or lack of talent.
However, as I delved deeper into the world of music production, I began to realize that failure is not only inevitable but also an essential part of the growth process. It is through failure that we learn valuable lessons, refine our skills, and ultimately evolve into better versions of ourselves.
I vividly recall a pivotal moment in my career when I faced a series of rejections and setbacks. Initially, I was disheartened and discouraged, questioning my abilities and contemplating giving up on my dreams. But then, a profound realization struck me like a bolt of lightning – failure is not a sign of weakness, but a stepping stone towards success.
With this newfound perspective, I embraced failure as an opportunity for growth and learning. I began to view each setback as a valuable lesson, dissecting my mistakes, and using them as building blocks to improve my craft. I understood that the path to success is not a linear one, but a winding journey filled with ups and downs, triumphs and failures.
By unlearning the notion that failure is not okay, I liberated myself from the fear of making mistakes. I embraced a mindset of resilience, perseverance, and a willingness to take risks. And through this transformative process, I not only grew as a music producer but also as an individual.
Today, I stand before you as a testament to the power of embracing failure. It is through these moments of adversity that I have honed my skills, discovered my true potential, and achieved remarkable success in my musical endeavors. I now understand that failure is not something to be feared, but rather a catalyst for growth, innovation, and ultimately, the realization of our dreams.
