We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Darius Bagwell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Darius, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.

I knew a few years ago I wanted to start a podcast. I wanted to bring something different to the podcast world and not stick to just one topic. I got the idea to start a podcast when I was at friend’s house to watch a fight and afterwards we started talking about different topics while having a drink and then it just popped into my head. I came up with the title Drinking After Dark and after some planning, I released my first episode over a year ago and it’s been a fun ride ever since.

Darius, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I’m from Clarksville, Tennessee where I grew up in a single parent household with my two brothers. I’m a huge sports fanatic because my mother got me involved in sports at an early age. After graduating high school, I went to college where I received my bachelor’s degree in marketing from Austin Peay State University.

I was inspired to get into podcasting by listening to other podcasters and friends encouraging me to do it. After playing ball, I wanted another outlet to express how I feel and to give listeners something new for about an hour a week. What I’m most proud of is that I’m continuing to grow the platform and closing in on personal goals I have set for myself.

What sets the podcast apart is that I don’t talk about the negative or drama. The platform is set up for everyone to come on, talk, and have fun. Also, I like to give others a platform to promote themselves and their brands. Drinking After Dark Podcast is a podcast where you can come on and be yourself without judgement.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

My goal is to give others a platform to promote their brands, be themselves, and have fun. I want it to be a safe space to talk about almost anything and express their thoughts without judgement.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

For me, it’s creating a platform for everyone to enjoy. In the beginning it was about having the best podcast out. But, after a while it was all about having fun, connecting with new or reconnecting with people, and giving a platform for those who would like to just about topics or promote their brands.
