We were lucky to catch up with Darious Flores recently and have shared our conversation below.
Darious, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
Once, during COVID my abusive ex wife kicked my out of our home and forced homelessness upon me. I didn’t argue with her. She was mad that I made polite conversation with a blonde woman with glasses at the Valero on Springdale x mlk. Even her mother told her she was wrong for that. I came home for my acoustic guitar, took an Uber downtown, and busked like a true Austinite. Outside of the legendary Waterloo Records, a man and his wife asked me to play “Street Spirit” by Radiohead. That is one of my favorite songs since I was an infant. I performed and they blessed me with $25. :)
Darious, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born to do this. “I’m a star, how could I not shine?”- YE
My origins are dark, melancholy, humble, and tragic I’m glad for all the bad because it only makes me more rad! I discussed a lot of this with Voyage Austin Magazine (Shout out to them… They did my first article.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I first read about Nonfungable Tokens in wired magazine in TDCJ. I love the idea of musicians releasing their record like that. I hear that some made more than ever in their entire careers. I am not schooled in crypto. I was looking for a long time on my phone, once the Ice Network crypto currency network scammed me, I completely gave up. I was high in the leaderboards with a guaranteed 250% investment after 5 years. That was my generational wealth. Gone in an instant. I hate them for that
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing is connecting and healing others with my songs. That’s what it’s all about. These songs are my story, but once they’re or they belong to the ones who receive it. They’re no longer just mine.
