We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Darious Baker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Darious , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
talents, the names Issa was born. “Issa” whatever you need it to be. It all started as a youngster, studying preforming arts, being in pageants and cheerleading. Performing arts taught me a lot about the acting world. And how to connect with my audience.. It helped push me into my now acting career. How to put on different faces with out losing yourself, and being able to embarrass yourself in front large audiences. The Pageant world is a whole different ball game. It’s competitive, edgy, and honestly a lot to handle if you don’t have tough skin. But, I loved it. It actually helps me a lot with my modeling career. You have to bring mad confidence into the pageant life. Without it, you’ll never win. Or place in this case. I’ve placed twice. And trust me it was not easy. However, all the confidence helped my modeling career take off at a fast pace… in modeling It not only pays to have a killer walk but to have just as much confidence.. I believe cheerleading, ties a bit in with that too. I had a really hard coach, who pushed all limits. Honestly, it’s still things I use in my everyday discipline. The discipline is what has gotten me where I am today.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Well, how I started was actually on video games such as call of a duty war zone, someone told me on chat. Hey, you should do a podcast, bro. Your voice sounds dope to do one, so I was like, well, hell, why not!? Then more and more people started to tell me, so I decided to do so. I wanted people to feel free to express themselves and shout out to individuals, including ourselves of the untitled culture podcast, a voice and to be known at the same time.
I’m a huge fan of Joe Rogan; he’s very interesting and diverse, so it helps me understand people. the challenges and lessons I’ve learned along the way?
Well, the struggle was creating the foundation. I wanted a podcast that didn’t sound like the other podcasts and radio stations. I wanted my sound and voice to be unique.
It took me about 5 years to finally put things together. As we continue to run, we improve and fix things as we go along. It’s not a smooth road for us on The Untitled Culture Podcast.
What sets our sound apart is how organic we are. You can feel the passion and the energy around and amongst us when we are on the podcast set.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
How did I meet my business partner?
Well, I have several business partners, whether it’s for music, clothing, art of any kind, or podcasting. For the questions sake, I’ll speak on the podcast, I have known ThatHippie and Buttercup since we were in middle school. Issa and Dugwud, I met through ThatHippie. Each of them bring many things to the table and make business pretty easy. I haven’t been disappointed with any of their opinions or ideas, and ideally we all make a pretty good team. -PCI
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I feel like there’s no specific story because every day of my journey shows how much resilience I really have. Each phase requires a different challenge that I have to overcome. As someone who struggles with social anxiety, with each field of work I am in, I come cross a variety of obstacles that I have no choice but to face head on. There have been times where i wanted to surrender. I would start to get in my head and overthink, but in the end there’s no giving up what’s meant for me. My main goal is to make everyone proud but the main person I want proud of me…is myself. And besides, I’m a Leo…we don’t give up! Signed,
