We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dariel Devora a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dariel, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.

Something I do different when it comes to DJ I will say is the way I connect with the crowd and my ability to play different genres of music. Being a bilingual DJ in the United State give me the opportunity to not only play Hispanic/Latino music but also play American music as well.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I was born and raise in the Dominican Republic, I came to the United State in 2009 with a college baseball scholarship in Arkansas. My dream was always to become a professional baseball player until I hurt my arm during my senior year. After graduating college I moved to Cincinnati to be closer to family. In 2017 I made the decision to become a DJ which quickly became my passion. 2 years after being a DJ in 2019 I won the award for Best latin DJ in Cincinnati and then in 2022 I won best club DJ in Cincinnati. I’m the type of DJ that will DJ to 10 people with the same passion and the dedication that I will DJ to 500 people. Because there is always someone watching you for the first time.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

I will say social Media plays a huge part of my DJ career even though it wasn’t until a couple years ago that I started focusing on branding and promoting myself and my bookings has definitely increased since.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

I feel what has helped me is my humbleness and the way I treat others.
