Hi Daricka, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?

How did I get my first client? Oh this is taking me way back lol! In 2013, I hadn’t been in Austin(Texas) long and I didn’t know anyone to help get the word out that I was a new stylist. However, I had the infamous Instagram. The handful of people I did know, I went to their friends list on the IG pages & followed every female that I could in hopes that some would follow me back and see the hairstyles I photographed of my friends and family hair I’d done & it worked. I also offered ridiculously low prices. Sure enough, a couple days later, I got my first client. A young lady named Shay. I was so excited and from there clientele slowly but steadily grew.

Hey y’all, My name is Daricka, most known as Rica (Ree-kuh). I am a Master Braider with a total of 9 professional years of service, however, i’ve been braiding since I was 11 years old. I LOVE hair and everything about it. As far back as I can remember i’ve always had my hands in hair. Whether it was my great grandmother or the dozens of dolls I owned as a little girl. I specialize in braids which are typically cornrows and individual braids that protect your hair and offer the convenience of not having to comb your hair for durations at a time. These styles allows me to relieve my clients of extra time during their day typically used to comb their hair. It also assist with making my clients feel confident and beautiful; this is what I’m most proud of. I want my potential clients to know that every style is done in love and anytime you step into my salon it’ll be a vibe.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

The most effective strategy for growing my business has been consistency!!!! I post a lot of pictures and videos and I’m very dependable. Those two traits alone can take anyone far.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

A lesson I had to unlearn and that I’m actually still unlearning is that communication rules the nation. Being open to meet new people via networking can take you far. There are people who want to support you, invest in you and who are cheering for your success.!
