Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dariana Cedeno. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dariana, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
So Me and Mom was born in the pandemic. (Which at the time i was 12) It all started because clay earrings became very popular after we went in quarantine. I was so in love with every style but at the time we were financially unable to purchase all the earrings i wouldve liked to have. So because my mom grew up in a home that was very creative, she knew how to make them herself. So we went out one day and bought a few supplies to try and make our own. The 1st pair we made i wore to my church and so many people there were so interested in buying my earrings. So i decided to make a little business out of it. Now i am 14 and We have now grown to a very big business with 7 stores with our products and we have been in business for 2 years.
Dariana, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Heriana Cedeno, i am 14 years old and i am in 10th grade. I am the creator behind the business. My mom name is Dariana Cedeno and she is also a creator in our business! We got into doing earrings together because we have always been very close and love spending time with each other so doing this business together gives us the opportunity to have great conversations while both doing what we love. All the earrings are made from Polymer Clay and we use Hyperalergenic Brass to put them together.
How did you build your audience on social media?
We built our social media by being consistent. It was difficult at first because it takes a while to build an audience but if you really put yourself out there and be persistent in what you do then your social media will grow. When you find your audience make sure to do things that draw their attention so they can interact with you as well. Also if you do community activities or events, promoting your social media is a big help.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My most effective strategy for building my clientele was going to social events. Anything that involved getting to know my community was a great place to be.
