We were lucky to catch up with Darian Vaziri recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Darian, thanks for joining us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I do all my own social media posting and 95% of the editing and clips you see are my doing. I didn’t really have a choice on wether or not I WANTED to do it. When you’re first getting off the ground, you are going to have to do the trench work yourself. You won’t have the money to hire a team unless you already have made it in another industry. You need to put in time yourself in my opinion before looking for help. Eventually, when you manage so many pages it sure can get overwhelming. I’d say the goal is to keep working to make enough money where you can higher people later down the line to ease the workload off of yourself.
Darian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an LA sports content creator who is a basketball junkie. I also have a love for Soccer as well but right now 90% of my content revolves around basketball because it’s what I know the best and am most passionate about. I do everything from postgame live reactions to game-day vlogs to collaborations with other fans and people, and even film breakdowns. I also am the Host of the Locked On Clippers Podcast for the Locked On Network where I talk about my favorite team, the LA Clippers, five days a week.
I got into the industry by starting my own platform during Covid because I legitimately had nothing to do. If you’re asking me about what “sets me apart”, I’d say it’s my passion. I’ve dedicated my life to this game of basketball and made life changing connections through it. I coach at the Youth level 5 days a week and watch more than people would think it’s healthy. But it’s really all to be the best basketball mind I can be.
What I’m most proud of is gaining the respect of some amazing basketball minds and also the love shown to me from my local fans. When people watch or listen to me, I want them to know that they’re listening to someone who takes what they talk about very seriously and puts in more time than they could ever imagine. Basketball is not a passion for me. It’s a lifelong obsession.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to inform fans about the history of the amazing sport of basketball and debunk the horrific misconceptions that have been pushed by mainstream media.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
It really depends what field you’re trying to establish yourself in because different categories get better results on different platforms. If you’re doing anything involving sports, I’d say Twitter and TikTok. Tiktok is running the visual game right now but Twitter is great for news and if the right people like or retweet you, you never know what could happen. You also HAVE to be consistent with these platforms. Make sure you’re churning out tons of content so people expect to see you after certain events occur.
