We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Daria Diache. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Daria below.
Daria, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
I’ve heard a quote from my amazing acting teachers at The Imagined Life and it goes like this: “If you’re always concerning yourself with what you should be, you will never be able to express WHAT YOU COULD BE.”
This is it; this is the answer to all my questions. The fear of not being right, the fear of not doing what I should be doing, or not meeting expectations – goes away once you recognize that being misunderstood is an illusion. This is yet another way that fear and low vibrations try to get to me and separate me from great experiences and amazing people.
I moved to America 8 years ago and people would often ask, “Oh, where is your accent from?” And guess what? I had enormous anxiety when responding. I WAS AFRAID OF BEING TYPECAST. I was afraid that people would hear that I am from Ukraine (which, 8 years ago, many didn’t know where Ukraine was), so I would say Russia, and they would think I am that typical Slavic girl on TV (a spy or a call girl). There’s nothing wrong with that but I am an actress, and it is very important for me not to be misunderstood in that way. I spent so much time trying to fit in, sounding like an American girl, dressing to fit in just to avoid being misunderstood.
Long story short, it hit me. That’s where I am from; that’s my accent; and my look and I like slavic food. And if you want to make an assumption about me, well, it won’t hurt me.
I started spending more time becoming me, becoming who I wanted to be instead of trying to prove myself to others.
FOCUS ON WHAT YOU COULD BE and this whole “misunderstood” concept will fly away like a piece of paper in the wind. I am not saying it will prevent other people from misunderstanding you but it won’t hinder your growth and will save you a lot of money in therapy.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Proud member of the Entertainment Industry! I am an actress and a film producer, and I have directed a few short films as well. My dream and desire to be a Hollywood star and make movies brought me to LA in 2015. I am blessed to still be here and excited to work. It’s not easy, it never was, and I am not famous but one day I will be.
And from dreaming of becoming a famous actress, I have grown to dream of becoming a PHENOMENAL actress. Craft is my number one focus.
I express myself through my heart. I love to laugh and make silly jokes and that shall be my brand.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I love books! They are my friends and my mentors. I read everything from biographies, money, investment to spirituality and the law of attraction.
A really amazing book that changed my view on finances was ‘MONEY MASTER THE GAME’ by Tony Robbins, an absolute MUST.
I just finished Viola Davis’s memoir, ‘FINDING ME,’ which made me fall in love with her and her craft even more and see acting as a career in a new and healthy way.
‘THE SHACK’ by William Paul Young, is my favorite; I will reread that book for the rest of my life.
‘RICH DAD POOR DAD’ by Robert Kiyosaki talks about entrepreneur vs employee mindset.
‘THE SOUL OF LEADERSHIP’ Deepak Chopra what a great book, he talks about emotional intelligence and the importance of compassion and empathy in leadership.
I can’t even express to you how much a good book means to me. If you are a reader as well, don’t hesitate to reach out; I would love to hear some suggestions.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding thing for me is that I get to be a part of a human story, to give a voice to the voiceless and show the unseen. My job is to be empathetic and tell amazing, important, powerful stories. THERE’S NOTHING GREATER THAN THAT!
