Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Daren Osby. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Daren, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I stopped playing professional baseball to pursue my music career.
I was a pretty good baseball player but I decided that wanted something different in my life. I have always made music so the decision to focus on my music career was easy and simple. I was of course nervous and scared because I was leaving a profession I have been doing all of my life but I knew at some point if I wanted to be an artist that I would have to leave baseball alone.
Right now it’s still a work in progress but everyday I get closer and closer to my dream.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an artist and audio engineer. I have been recording music since I was 13 years old. I started writing music at the age of 7.
The problems I solve day to day for myself and other artist I work with is how can we create the best song for what we are feeling that day. We don’t ever go into a session with a topic but once we get one we try to zero in on coming out with the best product. In our case that would be the song that is being made.
The thing that I am most proud of is that I keep going and I believe in music. Everybody tends to think an upcoming artist is just another artist and that can be very challenging. Especially when you aren’t getting the feedback you want at the time. I pour my heart and soul into my music so I am proud that every time I release a song or project I know that I gave it my all. I want my fans to know that they are getting every ounce of me on each and every song. That’s how much I love creating and making music.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
To help my family live better lives. We didn’t always have it easy growing up and I watched my parents struggle. They did a very good job with my brothers and I. My motivation and what keeps me going is that I can finally repay them for all they have done for us.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew how important it was to go out and network. I used to think that if the music is good enough it would speak for itself. Networking with different creatives and people have been huge for me
