We recently connected with Darell Brown and have shared our conversation below.
Darell, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Starting a business is always a risk of its own. There are so many things that could go wrong, that don’t mean that it will go wrong. You have to be prepared for it all and losing money is always “the big risk”. Will you get that money back, who knows it all depends on you. When I decided to start Brown Boi Productions, LLC it was really to have fun making comedy with my family and friends by sharing visuals. In a sense it’s still happening and to think it all started when I was doing comedy in Georgia. My brother Andre Holloway called me from Michigan and asked who made my videos. When I explained that it was me, he asked if I could make his commercial. Now understand my risk, I have never made a commercial before but I took that risk. After the commercial turned out great for the Dawski sauce, a local BBQ sauce, I knew I could do anything and I went out on a limb to accomplish more.
Darell, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well I am Darell Brown for those who may not know me. I do videography, cinematography, and occasionally photography. I love videography more because it captures more than photos. I love the sound and movements of each subject. I use my business to fund my comedy, yes I do comedy as well. Any video you see me do is through Brown Boi Productions, LLC. I also host a podcast called the 800 Club with Co-host Antwaun Green aka Twaun G and that’s powered by Brown Boi Productions, LLC. I’m a producer of another podcast show, called Woo Views powered by Brown Boi Productions, LLC. The aim is to keep on pushing until you see Brown Boi Productions, LLC everywhere.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
So before Brown Boi Productions, LLC was a thing, it was just my side hustle and I was just Darell Brown. I was acting and doing comedy in the state of Georgia and once I landed my first client Andre Holloway (maker of Dawski BBQ sauce). It made me wonder if I can make more money and soon after I got other clients. I was just hustling and having fun shooting videos and occasionally shooting photos. Then something hit me, I could make real money doing this and also keep having fun. Andre’s mother helped me get my LLC and she taught me what I needed to do to keep it going. So I thank God he can put people together and make things happen. Even after I had a couple years of bad luck when I came back to the business I was welcomed with open arms and new clients. That’s what a good name holds. I will be nothing without God and my clients, the people who comment and talk about Brown Boi Productions, LLC all around the world. They turned this side hustle into something more!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I was able to build an audience on social media through unique visuals. I was just seeing what worked honestly, that’s part of the advice I want to give to those looking to break out into social media. Just find what works for you and stick with it. I’m still doing comedy videos and more. The 800 Club has grown to over 1000 subscribers, the pimp I play Purple Diamond A.k.a. Uncle PD has over 200,000 followers worldwide and growing. You just have to stay consistent. Like I always say “Can you do this when you’re happy, sad, and angry”. If you can continue to push through all of that, that is what lets you know that you’re ready to take it to the next level and you will make it. Brown Boi Productions, LLC is climbing each and every single day and that advice that I’ve given I practice each and every day.
