We recently connected with Darcy Dunham and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Darcy , thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I always knew I wanted to pursue the creative arts in a professional way. Ever since the early 2000s when I would watch Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, I always imagined myself being on the screen — not being the person watching the TV. That seemed like a distant dream of mine until I got into college. That’s where I got an internship with the university’s marketing team, and I was able to create new programs like the Cardinal News and initiatives like Take Over Tuesdays so students felt more engaged and informed on campus. I was able to see my creativity turn into income for not only myself, but for those, I work with.
After that, I stayed in the marketing field but wanted to continue exploring the idea of getting back on TV. So I created a YouTube channel where I told hilarious stories of my life and that changed to me doing reaction videos on Instagram and somehow I transitioned into being a stand-up comedian today.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
What’s up my family?! My name is Darcy and I am a comedian, social media influencer, and marketing expert. I’m growing the “Life With Darcy” brand where I bring humor to situations and tell my life stories at the same time. I am on all social media platforms under “Life with Darcy,” so take a second to follow and join the other 10 to 20,000 family members to receive daily laughs!
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, my goal is to show kids who look like me, from the inner cities of Detroit and urban areas across the world, that you do not have to choose between being a rap artist or a basketball player. I want to show them that there is a lot out here for them to go and explore, and how powerful storytelling and the images that we see on a day-to-day basis are to our world. When this is all said and done, my goal is to change the perception of a young black male to something that people aspire to be like. I want the younger generation to look at me as inspiration, to chase a dream, and to go wholeheartedly into something that no one else believes in besides yourself. And I am very thankful because as a comedian, I get to question the status quo in our current society while delivering happiness to people and bringing them through a tumultuous time in their life. So I do all of this to not only help those alive right now, but to be an inspiration for those coming in the future.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience on social media is like building a friend group. Usually, we gain friends from places that we frequent. This directly correlates to social media, where you need to be consistent. Every day you should make a post that is consistent with your brand, has one central focus, and is moving in that direction.
