We were lucky to catch up with Dara Beitler recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dara, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I truly believe it takes passion, perseverance, and balance. LOVING what you do for the right reasons is the upmost important way to be successful, as you will breathe and dream of the business, of all the details of what you do, even as it evolves. You may try one strategy, then modify and pivot, and so on, until it works right for your business. Assuring you have your best mind, body and heart forward will allow the business to evolve and grow. It is this balance that you learn over time.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the principal and creative force behind Dara Beitler Interiors, LLC. When designing for my clients, I combine a unique mix of design genres. I develop and create beautiful and eclectic spaces, while keeping in mind functionality and spatial awareness. It is crucial that I understand how my clients live within their spaces. Communication is key for me. The ultimate goal of my designs are for my clients to live and succeed best within their homes.
I am proud to say that most recently, I helped create an organization throughout our design industry, Design Industry for Peace. To foster a community of compassion, creativity, and unwavering commitment. To a better future for all.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I learned early on that building my brand also meant utilizing social media as best as I could. Showing who I was and what I did in the most honest and raw ways would be how I decided what to post, when to post, and build a social media community that lifted myself and others up in their businesses. Empathy and connection have always been valuable to me and I follow this path when using social media.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Absolutely. My design journey was one of passion and talent. My initial career was a Speech-Language Pathologist working over the years with pediatrics, educational teams and parents; followed by diagnosing and treating a variety of adult patients and communicating with medical care teams and caregivers in the acute care hospital setting. I started designing over 10 years ago and haven’t stopped. This organically grew into my business after having my two children. I, too, naturally evolved and continue to do so. This is the beauty of adulthood.
