We recently connected with DaQuane Cherry and have shared our conversation below.
DaQuane, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Betting on yourself is a risk willing to take every-time. You are your best investment. Also Ive learned that i have to be my own cheerleader and not expect others to be , yet appreciating those who do cheer me on at the same time.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I DaQuane Cherry (b. 1998, Elizabeth City, NC) am a Manhattan based self taught multidisciplinary artist specializing in figurative painting/Portraiture, poetry, and photography. Prior to the pandemic, my professional focus was on my acting and modeling career. At the peak of the pandemic i redirected my focus and concentrated my interest in figurative Painting in which , pre pandemic, i considered a hobby. Here i found my creative footing and continues to strengthen my skillset.
My artwork is rooted in emotional intellect , mental health awareness, and healing while invoking playfulness through storytelling. During my time of self taught study and finding my style, i found my motif that has become my most notable work to date, my teddy bear signature. The teddy bear represents the imagination and keeping the inner child alive. I debuted and funded my first solo Exhibition in 2020 at Blank Slate Brooklyn Studios. I have followed that up with a show with Raul Avila Cafe, the Production Designer for The Met Gala (2022); Aloft Hotel, Wall Street (2022); Waco Theater Annual Art Gala (2022); Selina Chelsea Hotel (2023).
I was the winner of THE 2023 STEVE MADDEN X HARLEM FESTIVAL OF CULTURE DESIGN CHALLENGE WINNER where he designed a 3 piece limited edition wearable art capsule collection (a Denim Jacket, Combat Boot, and Belt Bag).
My artwork has been notarized in many publication such as: Esquire Magazine, InStyle Magazine, Health Magazine, Shoutout LA, and The Gatekeepers Collective.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I never yuck someones yum… but yuck ! Haha!
Personally i never understood it.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The freedom to be me. My full weird self is my best self, and in that i create. I find my happy place in all this creative, all things art
