We were lucky to catch up with Daquan Chambers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Daquan , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I took one of the biggest risk at 21 years old, I was serving in the US Navy but the feeling of dropping everything and moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting was on my mind everyday all day . I know when it was all said and done I couldn’t come back from it but I was willing to live with my decision no matter the outcome. First off it was a challenge to get out the navy early without finishing my contract but when I did I booked that one way plane ticket with that one suitcase. It was trail and error because I moved out here by myself without knowing anyone. Prior to leaving North Carolina I had never been to LA , and leaving my family who was 3,000 miles away still eats me up inside to this day. They support me and know I’m putting a good foot forward to provide a better life for all of us so the move was well worth it .
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
When I first arrived in LA, I started networking and meeting different people,I took a few different acting classes which led me to more auditioning. I got discovered by my first agent and I build up a great relationship with them who taught me the different ins and outs of the entertainment industry, and it has helped me a lot and I will continue to apply that to my everyday craft . I think what sets me apart from others is that if I fall down I’m always gone get back up and go ten times harder because I know this bigger than myself. I’m most proud of myself I been through a lot and just having to overcome those hurdles on my path with God. It’s trained my mind to be stronger than ever just being so young accomplishing so much in a new city .
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an actor is exploring life and human emotion. I love observing behavior and using it in my characters. The exciting work environments and different places of filming always bring joy to me. Having the opportunity to meet a large sum of people in a short amount of time is truly amazing.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I remember a while ago I wasn’t having any progression for the goals I set out for myself in this acting game. I had a set back and just hit a rough patch where I ended up going back to North Carolina for a while just to spend time with family and just to think about my overall plans of how I could overcome myself. The only person that was in my way was me a lot of people wouldn’t understand but my family was there every step of the way. I landed back in LA and just started seeing my life positively change .
