We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Danyelle Clark a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Danyelle, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
I don’t know many trends but I do feel that one of the biggest trends that I see in the industry is the lack of a need for vocal training. This is the reason why I started my business, because it is a need and it can help to enhance vocal skills. I also feel that training can give a boost of confidence, not just with singing, but with performance overall.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Danyelle Clark, but most know me as Danny Rey. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 2005, and I’ve been a “Georgia Peach” for the last 16 years.
In 2002-2003, I became a music artist, but in early 2005, I became a vocal coach. I took vocal training as a teenager. So everything that I was taught, was something that I wanted to share with others.
Fast forward to 2022, Beautiful Music Coaching & Development was born. As a vocal coach, I help others learn how to enhance their vocal skills with basic, simple and easy vocal and breathing techniques. We also focus on tone, range and vocal health.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson that I had to unlearn was that “singers don’t need vocal training.” I heard this quite a bit. I never understood what that meant until I found that I needed training for myself. Most people wouldn’t believe that I needed training, but I really did. My mother saw potential in me after seeing and hearing me sing in church for the first time at 12 years old. So, I was enrolled in a summer program called the Detroit Cultural Renaissance Center Music Show Choir. I was apart of the program for about 5-6 years. I received vocal lessons through this program while also learning about stage performance. I noticed a huge difference with my voice and that it was becoming stronger each day. I was also introduced to and sang Jazz, Broadway, Classical and Show Music while in the program and had the opportunity to travel and perform.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
As far as new clients, I think the best resource has been social media. I’ve still gotten clients by referral, too. People use to have to look you up in the Yellow Pages. I am definitely telling my age on that one, but with technology as it is now, people have more access to you and can see what you can do up front. . I am very grateful for all of the business I’ve gotten so far and appreciative to those who have supported me and my business.
