We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful DANYELLE CLARK. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with DANYELLE below.
Alright, DANYELLE thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
A very good friend of mine, who is also like a brother, Brandon Smith, started an Artist Development company in Detroit, MI and hired me as his first vocal trainer. My time there was short, being that I ended up moving to Atlanta, GA. I was so amazed at how he started building his company and he never missing a beat in doing so. It is now one of the most popular artist development companies in Detroit, MI. I knew then that I wanted to do the same and have my own company. Transitioning to this was not easy, being that I started as an artist. I don’t know if I really wanted to be an artist. I did it because I felt like I had something to prove. I pushed myself into being something or someone that I didn’t really want to be. So many times we try to make moves on our own, thinking we have it altogether not realizing that God has something else in mind.
In 2018, I tested the waters, and started vocal training. I had a few clients, who were absolutely amazing to work with, but I still felt that something was missing. As my clients moved on to touring and recording, I stepped back completely from vocal coaching hoping to find my way. In the midst of this, I tried pushing a podcast, but realized that that wasn’t something God wanted me to do either. My dreams, my vision, his vision was way bigger than that.
Earlier this year, I decided that I had to make myself official. What was in my mind for so long, I wanted to physically see it. And I made it happen. This is how my company, Beautiful Music Coaching and Development, LLC was born. I went back to the drawing board and figure out the ends and outs of how I wanted to execute my vision. I even watched artist interviews, videos of them singing, their performances and realized that there was one thing missing: TRAINING. After the first announcement that I made stating that I would begin vocal coaching again, it became real and I knew that it was time. I knew that there was something that I could offer to those who really needed it.
DANYELLE, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Danyelle Clark. I go by Danny Rey, which is my artist name. I’m originally from Detroit, MI, born and raised, but I currently live in Atlanta, GA. I started my musical journey as an artist. I released two songs back in 2002-2003, one of which received radio play. In 2005, I moved to Atlanta, where I’ve had the opportunity to work with a few local artists (singers, rappers). In 2016, I became a member of neo-soul group, Audiosource Live, in which I sang lead and was lead songwriter. We released our album, Shine, in 2017. We released two singles from the album called Will I Ever and Shine, both in heavy rotation in the UK. Our songs were on the charts in the UK ranking #1, or either in the Top 5 or Top 10. We were also on Amazon Top 50. Our songs are still streaming to this day. As I am also a songwriter, I became a member of songwriting team Creative Ink in 2018. We have a few placements under our belt, as well as being chosen as #1 and #2 in ASCAP’s songwriting contest.
It I was vocally trained as a teenager in jazz, classical and Broadway music. So, I’ve always wanted to use what I was taught to help others. The voice is a precious gem. We use our voices everyday, but we still need to know how to take of it. The services that I will be offering will be based around voice and performance. I really don’t know what would set me apart from others, but I do know that I work hard and my goal is for my clients to be happy.
As far as being proud, I’m not just proud that I have my own business now. I’m proud of myself because my vision, my dream has finally come to pass. I worked very hard to get where I am now.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
One of the things that a good friend taught me was that I had to let people see me. I didn’t understand at first. I can be shy sometimes. When I asked why, he told me that I couldn’t offer a service without letting people know who I am. He was right. So eventually, I started posting singing videos just to engage. I was very shocked because although I didn’t have a huge following on Social Media, it definitely attracted a new audience.
My advice to those that want to build an audience on social media: Be You! The Real You.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients has been social media and word of mouth. As my friend told me previously, I had to let people see me. I had to let them see what I was doing, working on, etc. It has definitely helped me understand who my audience is and what they need or what they are looking for.
