We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Danquisha Denson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chef Q.D, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today?
I am a really big believer on never giving up your hobbies and passions for a career. I love to cook and I love to dance and when I started my career as a chef, I promised myself I wouldn’t turn my back on my love for dancing as well.
As I began to branch out of the resteraunt scene into more catering events, I realized the potential there to turn both of my passions into one business. I acquired an event planning certification and created ” Rhythm and Food Events”. The name is a play on both cooking and dancing, and through event planning I would have an opportunity to book jobs through both the catering and entertainment aspects of event planning.
My goal for this business is not to only get myself work as a chef and event planner, but also to help others get work as well regardless if they cook, decorate, play piano, etc, through a vendor like relationship. The idea of bringing the two arts together, and expanding beyond those is what I see for Rhythm and Food’s Future.

Chef Q.D, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The Rhythm and Food Events platform was created out of my refusal to give up on my dreams to be both a chef and a performer. I am an artist , and I needed a platform that would allow me to succeed at all forms of my art. After I realized It was up to me to build this sort of platform, I decided to combine my talents through event planning and created “Rhythm and Food Events “..
The goal is to help connect clients with the best hospitality artists and experts in the industry, helping manifest event dreams into reality. The services range from event planning, catering, and decorating to performers such as singers, dancers, and musicians, for weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries, etc.
I got to where I am today through trial and error, and staying persistent. I promote myself, I continue to learn, train, and grow in all of my crafts ,and I make sure my work is professional and consistent, rather im catering, performing, or hosting the event.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative/artist is being able to embrace my creativity. Its so easy to become another number in a society that teaches you to live to survive. Embracing the the artistic abilities through my craft allowed me to do more than the bare minimum when it comes to living, experiencing, and enjoying the world. Theres so much to learn and explore, and rhe more I share, the more other artists are willing to share thier knowledge with me. I enjoy being uniquely established through my craft and its helped me embrace and be confident in who I am as a person a.d spiritual being.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission on this journey is to not only reach a level where I am in a position to soley focus on my craft, but to be able to teach and share everything I learn with people who may not be as confident expressing or sharing thier artistic abilities with the rest of the world.
