We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Danny Torres. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Danny below.
Danny, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue some sort of a creative path was when I was around 8 years old. My parents had an old cassette camcorder that plugged into the VCR, and I was obsessed with it. I’d spend hours filming myself doing random things, like building card castles or making skits in my room. A few years later, I started making YouTube videos and that was when I realized how much I loved capturing moments and telling stories through video.
After high school, I went to college to study photography as a fine art, but I eventually switched to film and digital media production. Even then, I felt like I didn’t fit the mold of what was expected in a structured program. I realized I wanted to carve my own creative path instead of following someone else’s blueprint— so I dropped out in search of my own.
Years later, I moved to New York City, where I met George Poulos, another popular content creator. We started making videos together every day, which led me to take my content creation more seriously. But it wasn’t until a few years later, that I found my true purpose— sharing my mental health journey.
I started a series called Clawing Myself Out of Crippling Depression on Instagram, sharing the raw and real struggles I faced, and it resonated deeply with people. That moment—realizing I could use my creative talents to connect with others over something so personal—was a turning point for me. It solidified my desire to pursue a creative path professionally, one that was meaningful, authentic, and true to who I am. It’s been a winding journey, but every part of it has led me to where I’m meant to be.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Danny Torres, a Content Creator focused on mental health. My journey into this creative space started when I was a kid making videos at home. I’ve always been drawn to storytelling and self-expression, which led me to studying photography and film in college before deciding to carve my own path. Over the years, I’ve experimented with many different types of content such as skateboarding, health and fitness, and spirituality— but what ultimately resonated most with me and my audience is sharing my mental health journey.
Today, I create videos that combine raw honesty with creative visuals, aimed at shedding light on the struggles and triumphs of mental health. My work primarily takes the form of short-form Instagram reels, where I share insights, personal stories, and encouraging messages in a way that’s relatable and visually engaging.
What sets me apart is the authenticity of my content. I don’t shy away from showing the lows as well as the highs, and my audience appreciates that I approach mental health topics in a way that’s both personal and accessible. I also incorporate a unique creative style in my videos, built on years of experience with video editing and storytelling, which gives my content a polished yet genuine feel.
One of the things I’m most proud of is how my videos have helped others. I regularly hear from followers who say my content has inspired them to seek help, open up about their own struggles, or feel less alone. Knowing that my journey can have a positive impact on someone else’s life is incredibly rewarding.
Aside from content creation, I’ve also launched a clothing brand called The Journey Is Ours, which is inspired by my personal mental health journey. It’s more than just apparel—it’s a way for my community to feel connected and seen. I want people to know that they’re not alone in their struggles and that there’s strength in sharing our journeys together.
What I hope potential clients, followers, or fans take away from my work is that it’s okay to be vulnerable. Whether through my videos or my clothing, I want to foster a sense of connection and encourage people to embrace their journey, no matter how messy or difficult it might feel.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I spent a long time trying to build an audience, and while I had some success with different types of content and accounts, I could never sustain it. The reason was simple: I wasn’t doing what I truly wanted to do, and the content wasn’t helping anyone. It wasn’t until I shifted to sharing my mental health journey on Instagram that things began to click.
There are many ways to grow a following, but I think there are only two things that truly matter.
The first is your “why.” If you’re just after followers for the sake of it, the process can feel empty and unsustainable. It’s about what makes you unique and how you can help others.
And the second is you NEED to be yourself. You need to truly not give a shit about what people think about you. You will be laughed at and you will be called names (and not just on the internet). I’ve had long-time friends make fun of me for what I do, but my relentless nature pushed me to persevere, no matter what kind of hate I received.
Basically, just be authentic and don’t give up.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There were many moments that shaped my resilience. Getting sober was a huge step forward and brought me clarity, but something was still missing—a purpose to fully invest in. Even with a job and things seemingly in place, I felt lost and uncertain about what to do with my life. About a year later, my mental health worsened, and I hit my rock bottom—everything seemed to fall apart at once. I got arrested, lost my job, and lost my relationship. I was left broke, depressed, and with no clear path forward. During that time, I struggled with dark thoughts and ended up in a psych ward. It was a desperate turning point in my attempt to pick myself back up.
After hitting this low point, I made a decision to do whatever it took to turn things around. I got back into my creative pursuits, giving it everything I had. It hasn’t been easy, and it’s something I deal with every day, but the goal is to take it one step at a time. It’s all part of the journey, and there’s still a lot to figure out, but I’m determined to put in the work and make it happen, no matter what’s happened before.
