We recently connected with Danny Star and have shared our conversation below.
Danny, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
Sometimes we like to give out extra perks and add-ons to some of our clients that have been loyal and with us for a long time. It’s our way of acknowledging them that we appreciate them and want to continue to helping them grow.
An example would be to start a Tik Tok campaign for them. We’ll even get models and actors and actresses to talk on their behalf or show off their product. Another thing could be shooting some new photos, or creating new art for them. We decide on what to give our based on what will implement itself well into the overall strategy of what we’re trying to do, which is to help clients reach their stated goals.
Other examples could be a press release, a website update, local listing makeovers, or other similar things we feel can help out a business and let them know we appreciate working with them.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Even at a young age, I’ve always been into marketing and publicity and everything surrounding it. I come from Slovena, right next door to Italy. I started out as a kid helping my dad put together and distribute his newspaper around our small town. I learned about the advertising side, the design side, working with writers, the labor and printing, and so much more.
When I first came to the U.S. as a student and began in working in marketing and technical tasks for some financial companies. Then I began to venture out into the world of consulting for people on my own. Around the time that the financial crisis of 2008 happened, I decided to leave formally working in the financial industry and began working on founding what is now Website Depot. I am so proud to say that what started in a tiny office in Van Nuys with a team of three people has now grown into a growing company celebrating it’s 10th anniversary. I am proud of the fact that we have clients and employees from all over the world and from all walks of life. I feel this helps us to keep that open-mindedness and willingness to learn that’s helped us grow into what we are.
I like to push our company towards always evolving with the trends and the times we live in as it relates to technology and all the tools we now have to reach people. So whether that’s Tik Tok, Map Apps, Google Analytics, or what have you, we always have to be able to grasp and understand what’s coming out so we can apply it to our business’ advantage, and in turn apply it to our client’s efforts towards growing their business and getting their names on the map.
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
One thing I felt that we became really good at over the years is digital marketing for Attorneys. We have wonderful case studies for a variety of lawyers who practice in many areas of law. We’ve had such good success at executing campaigns for them, that I felt that this time we should market it as a niche. In our industry we call it “account marketing”– that is, going for a certain type of client in a specific industry.
So we ventured out and announced ourselves as an attorney marketing firm. We also have some sites we’ve created that tailor just toward digital solutions and marketing solutions for law firms and lawyers.
It’s quite a risk because we didn’t know if it’d catch on. Targeting just lawyers casts a very small net as compared to anybody and everybody with a small business. But I am very happy to discover that since we started this initiative, our number of legal clients has grown immensely.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think what’s helped my reputation, and our agency’s reputation the most is that we actually do come through for clients, and they share that. Even if there are bumps in the road, we see them through, we keep working, we learn from mistakes and we make things better.
If anything comes in underperforming in anyway for our client, we’ll pinpoint it and get to work on it, and keep making things right. I think over time people come to appreciate that when they work with us.
Another thing is since we’re seasoned in digital marketing, we apply all of the principles for ourselves. We’re constantly making posts about what we’re up to, the team having fun, shooting videos, etc. I think that gets people to know us.
