We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Danny Scheer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Danny below.
Alright, Danny thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
Oh wow—there are so many moments that come to mind… Quick side-quest?
This invite-only restaurant in Shanghai was recommended to my brother and me – apparently real fancy, real nice… sounds good! The cab dropped us off at the far end of a dark alley with steam creeping through cracks in the street, and we weren’t so confident. We entered through this heavy, windowless steel door and found ourselves in a modern, calm dining room with ambient lighting and what must have been the biggest indoor bonsai tree, we had ever seen.
The menu was written in traditional Chinese characters, so naturally, we had no clue what to order. The waitress, Michelle, promised she would take care of us. We had a couple small starters, some of this and that and eventually they brought out a side cart because the various entrées that kept coming piled up on our table. We started to get genuinely worried about how we would ever finish, not to mention pay for all this food.
We got caught in a wonderful conversation with Michelle. She joined us at the table, and for the next three hours, we learned everything about her culture, her journey, and her vision for a future built on kindness.
After various desserts and the most comforting tea poured from a pot with a three-foot spout, Michelle insisted on inviting us for our dinner. It wasn’t until much later that we found out she failed to mention that it was, in fact, her restaurant we were dining in – a very exclusive place rumoured to serve only the most wealthy and important people in the country… a category my brother and I certainly don’t qualify for, then or now.
This has nothing to do with my work in the music industry. Like – nothing at all. This story isn’t even about me. But it is the most valuable lesson in humility, generosity, and kindness I ever got to witness.
Every now and then, chance allows my brother and/or me to pass on the favor. Not often, and probably not as impactful, but whenever the opportunity arises, we take it and say, “Greetings from Michelle”—which is more often than not met with a confused “huh?”

Danny, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a freelance creative technologist, music producer, and audio engineer, I collaborate with fellow music creators on projects, albums, and shows. I have recorded and mixed for and with A-list musicians such as members of Steely Dan, Guns & Roses, and the Rolling Stones, as well as top-charting artists of today and tomorrow.
Fellow creatives usually call me for my spatial audio expertise. Occasionally, they also appreciate the offbeat humor – but usually, it’s for the music…

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
It’s not about money. It’s about working on something fulfilling, something to be passionate about and look forward to.
In my early “planting seeds phase”, I devoted months of hard work to barely paying projects while turning down far more lucrative offers that didn’t align with my interests as well. Funny enough, those passion projects ended up making what I considered good money at the time seem… let’s say… negligible. But that’s beside the point.
My “silly little music-making thing” turned into a whole operation with managers, agents, and legal reps, and I still choose to work only on projects with people I like and music I love. It’s really not that complicated.
What really drives the wheel is inspiration, creativity, fresh ideas, and a whole lot of commitment.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The people around us. Asking for help is the best resource there is!
